I bought a Conn 62h in '69. This one had the tuning in the slide. One great trombone. What was weird was I sat 1st chair, 1st trombone but found hitting the high notes was fairly easy on it. Glad you got this great trombone

glad you have a full line of trombones that really satisfies you!!! Your King 2B, Bach Strad 42T, and your now Conn 62HI really fit well together. Congratz on your new acquisition. something to think about. most of us subscribe to see your playing, but maybe you could also do more trombone reviews and comparisons if your local store or friends wouldn't mind letting you mess around on their horns. Just something I thought you might be interested in. like comparisons between like say the Bach Strad 42 series and the Yamaha Xeno 882 series. That is if you have time for things like that. another thing. perhaps a video on picking the right mouthpiece? I am still only a high school student, but on a nice horn like my xeno, it is easier to hear and feel a difference between mouthpieces and which work or not. ive always used a Bach 6 1/2 AL, and still use one, but i was wondering if maybe it was time I found the real right mouthpiece for me rather than just the one ive been using and how i might do that? thanks. keep up the great work!!!!

Nice introduction. I'm glad you found a horn you like. I switch horns a lot (cornet to tuba), and for me the Olds George Roberts provides the easiest transition. Those horns are extremely light - even a lightweight slide way before those got popular. When you hit my advanced age, the weight and the breath are everything! You know what will be the best horn you ever played? The one you sold two weeks ago. All the best!

Having a dependent second valve is theoretically better because when the valves are not being used, you only have to blow air through one of the rotors. With two independent valves, you have to blow through both rotors all the time, and this can increase the stuffiness of the horn.

(Part 4) to produce such a sound it is necessary to have just the right resistance, irrespective of bore size, as well as a particular weight and alloy composition. To this end, these factors came together beautifully in the King, then the Bach line. I should add that I also tried out the Yamaha and thought it was a very fine trombone, but did not have the resistance I was seeking for that more focused (pointed) sound. End.

(Part 2) and performed on 3 horns : a King 3B, Bach 36, and King 7B standard Bass. As a student all I ever heard was how wonderful the Conn 88H was. I tried it as well as the other models in the Conn line. To this very day I've always felt that the Conn trombones produce A DEAD AND LIFELESS SOUND. I have never heard anyone from Los Angeles to Stockholm who could get a Conn trombone

Did you get a chance to try the Yamaha Xeno basses? I play on a xeno tenor, and if I ever got a bass, it would probably be a xeno too. Also, I wouldn't be so sure about using that for the rest of your life...Conn will probably bring out newer trombones in the future and of course more and more will keep coming from other companies :P.

I have the Jupiter JSL-1240L Bass trombone and I think that this horn has a fantastic upper register and a fantastic lower register in alternating from low to high easily! Fact the Bass trombonist in the La Philharmonic has the same horn!!!!!!! But the cost is 5,095 but totally worth the great tone/ just excellent and accurate sound!!!!!!!!

Could you make a video explaining why you chose the horns that you did? Did you try a bunch of trombones (bass, symphonic tenor, and jazz tenors alike) and those were what worked for you? Was there budget involved? It's kind of odd how you like the Bach 42 but picked a Conn bass. I've always felt a distinctive difference in resistance between Conns and Bachs. Conns feel more open to me, while Bachs have more resistance. Resistance does help some play better tho, it's obviously working for you? Does budget prevent you from getting something BAC or Rath, Edwards etc. custom? Or did you just never feel the advantage in them?

Try lip shifting for those super pedals! Put your bottom lip on the mouthpiece and stick that upper lip in there and put slow steady warm air in there! With this technique i can hit a Double B Natural bellow the staff, but then again Im a tuba player... lol

I just recently changed from a Conn 1 1/2 G to a Griego .5. It seemed like a big change at first but after getting use to the size, it really broadened my mid to low range sound, and with some recent practice I've quickly been able to get to the higher range stuff back to par. Now, because everyone's different I suggest checking a huge variety of Griego's and narrowing in on the perfect size for you

The Conn doesn't cut the air back as much! :) The Bach had all sorts of weird sharp turns in it that slows the air down, but it does cause you to be able to play louder ;p But the Conn is more well constructed and expensive as heck I bet. Ahhh, There's nothing better than more Bass. XD

How much did you pay, if I may ask? I'm an orchestral tenor player like you... I play on a 1969 Conn 88H, which I adore. But I would love to expand my bass skills. Want a good, versatile horn, with excellent blend. Independent valves would be wonderful. But obviously, needs to be economical. Thanks!

It's an expensive horn- It goes for $3,629 new. It's one of the reasons I've been playing on the old Bach for so long, saving up for this one!

That depends. If you haven't played a Bb/F trigger trombone, don't bother with a bass trombone, as it will be very difficult to adjust to the bore size. If I were you, I would rent a used F-Attachment from a music store, learn and play on that, and then move to a bass trombone. I hope this helps!
