Imagine stretching out a cornet so it looked like a trumpet. Well, Conn did this with a number of models. The 28A was the last of these models and I recently bought one.

Sounds great Gordon very old school sound . I've got the 38B trumpet . It sounds great 👍 Have you still got the 28A

@@BarrybarnabasJohnson Yes. In fact I have been using it in the orchestra as an alternative to Rotary trumpet. Its easy to get that very tenuto attack (like a bulge in the sound) for Wagner and other romantic era stuff.

Congratulations Gordon! I also have such a model. As Conn said, it's a secret weapon. In practice, it is. More flexible, lightweight and responsive

It even has some of the characteristics of a rotary trumpet if you use the correct mouthpiece.

Interesting video Gordon, thanks for posting. These are an interesting design for myriad reasons which I won't go into here - but the importance of bore size is seriously misunderstood by most cornet players in the UK as demonstrated by some comments here and elsewhere. However, another comment you made piqued my interest. Did I understand you correctly in saying that imported musical instruments should not be liable to VAT?

It was the duty which was less, not the VAT (I think). Generally they put used instruments in the wrong duty class.

This horn is actually .438 bore, or should be.

Thanks Bryan. My small bore selmer is .450 which is the same bore as a Schilke Piccoloi, so .438 sounds small. In reality, though, it doesn't feel tight. I am planning to sell my Schilke S22, which is a massive instrument by comparison.
