I was expecting the pieces to slide down when you flip the board, which could've potentially add a new layer to strategy to it. It would also be cool to have a version where you could also rotate the board sideways, but I don't know how easy or cost-effective that would be to build and mass-produce.

Agreed - I though they'd slide down too initially. Would definitely be interesting to see how that plays.

My fav connect 4 is connect 4 spin because of the spinning columns

That one looks interesting too, but I've never come across it to play.

This really wasn't what I imagined when I saw the cover. I thought when you flip it the pieces would all fall down so you have a different board state

That's exactly what I thought initially as well. I would appear that there isn't a Connect 4 that plays like that, but I think the idea would make for an interesting game.

Connect4 is a solved game. I wonder if this version has been solved too.

Indeed, I saw that while I was researching. I would doubt that this version has been solved by computers yet (mainly becasue I don't think anyone has bothered trying) but I'd imagine that it could be.

Are you doing this on purpose?!? 😉 Yet another two‐player game I havenʼt been able to give a _spin_ at my multiplayer sessions! (Likewise for Connect 4 Spin, for that matter…) And thatʼs all the more vexing because Flip was a somewhat rare acquisition, at least on the western side of the Atlantic, for apparently the game was released exclusively in Europe. Well, I imagine Iʼll get to it sometime. As for favorite variations, Iʼm rather partial to Connect 4×4: Not only does it add true tridimensionality with its layered double grid, but it can be played by 2-4 players-much easier to bring to the table!! 😁 4×4 really is a lot of fun.

I didn't realise that this was a European only release, but it would probably explain the dearth of videos covering it on KZbin (I'm fairly sure this is the only one on here at the moment). I've not played Connect 4x4 - it looks a little like a more-complicated-to-look-at version of Score 4 or Connect 4 Advanced?

@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews I wouldnʼt say Connect 4×4 is especially like Score Four/Connect 4 Advanced. The _4×4_ bit is a misnomer - _2×4_ would be closer to the truth - and so the name may be feeding a misperception. The 4×4 game board is laid out exactly like a typical Connect Four board except that itʼs actually two such boards layered together. When you drop a checker in, you drop it on one side or the other, and so itʼs possible for two different players to each have a single checker together in what would constitute a single space in a standard Connect Four board. Your four‐in‐a‐row can use checkers from _both_ sides, and so I imagine a two‐player session would be fairly cutthroat. With three or four players, it simply gets crazy! In 4×4 each player also has two “blocker” pieces; a blocker occupies both sides simultaneously, not only giving the player exclusive control of the same space in two layers but also blocking all players from filling any empty spaces which might be below the blocker on one of the two sides. By the way, I did get a _turn_ at Connect 4 Spin recently, at the same one‐on‐one session where I finally got Berzerk to the table. That was a cutthroat game, too!
