Connect HP USB Printer On M1 Mac - Solve Printing Issues On M1

It seems after the Monterey update many of you guys are unable to install the driver. One guy in the comments edited the code and installed it but still could not print. I don't have access to this printer now as it is with my cousin brother. So I will try to get access and see if we can find the latest driver for Monterey. In meantime, if you guys found something then, please share it in this comment below. Everyone will appreciate your help. For now, we just can keep our fingers cross that HP and apple release proper drivers for old Hp printers on M1.

Yes, when i try to download on to my macOS 12.1.0, I get an error code that says "This update requires mac OS version 12.0 or earlier."

Success!… with an older HP Laserjet M1217 printer and an iMac Retina 5K running MacOS Monterey 12.4. I downloaded the printer software update from the Apple Support page as shown in your video. As you pointed out, the key thing is to right-click on the printer name in System Prefs and select “Reset Printing System”. I clicked on the “+” and re-installed the printer using the updated driver. And… Bingo! I don’t have to buy a new printer! You have provided more help and information than HP offers on their web site. Thank you for sharing.

followed the steps on this tutorial and after how many try I did it. Mine is HP Deskjet 2300 or 2336. just select the hp deskjet 2020hc printer under select software. hope this helps.

Hi @@ashleylim491, i had the same problem before. You need to select/tick “Duplexer” when setting up the printer. I didnt know what that was so i ignored it. I may have to reset the printer again to select duplexer later but lemme know how that works out for you :)

Thought I had fixed it following your video. Printed one document after installing the HP Intel driver software. An hour later went to print something and the printer was hung saying sending data to printer and of course no printing, so for me still struggling to get this brand new I mac to print. New wireless printer coming in two days so no option but to install that and hope it works.

So it works! After my previous post I finally found the time to put these suggestions to the test and see if it works in my case too, and it does. Mac OS does complain about non App Store developers when installing the HP printer drivers v5.1.1 but once these are ignored I can now add the printer and print and scan normally. Once again a big thanks to AKSHAY BHOPANI for putting us all on the right track. And as some here have suggested HP could have done a better job supporting us it's customers.

I went to the HP site, to download a driver, but I was basically told my printer was no longer supported. I downloaded the program you suggested and now I can print. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH! works for hp deskjet 1000!!!!! ive read several forums on how to do this and this video helped alot. for those having problems....follow this video. make sure when you download the link given, the download is "HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg" (verify while downloading). After you are done downloading it, inorder to open it you have to install rosetta (your mackbook will prompt you to do so). install rosetta too (it's fast so no worries). then you follow prompts for the hp installation. then go back to printers-scanners like in video and follow. Note what Akshay says at 4:25-4:40 is VERY important. THANK YOU AKSHAY!!!!!!!! GOd bless you!!!

Thank you for your very informative tutorial Akshay ! It's now 2024 & a lot of Mac owners are still having the same printer problems with HP printers. I have been in touch with both Apple & HP Support - several times for a fix - but unfortunately, no luck. The HP support tech told me that there isn't an update driver available for SONOMA OS15 ...... BUT the Apple tech found an update driver & then installed it ! ...... but my HP Deskjet 1510 (USB connected) printer, still does not print. I'm using the printer with my Mac Mini (M1 chip). The SCAN function still works o.k. Strangely enough - after cleaning the printer heads - the printer successfully prints out a test page ..... but when attempting to print from a website, etc, I receive error messages: Unable to communicate with the printer OR Waiting for the printer to become available. The last Apple Support tech who I spoke to - said that the problem could be possibly due to the GENERIC INK CARTRIDGES that I am using ??? I would be most grateful if you could provide me with an updated fix please Akshay. Regards with thanks. Pete.

Test page is printed from the printer itself. It could be the OTG connector or USB Port the problem. Try switching the driver version and try again.

New I mac bought a few days ago and couldn't print anything. Did an immediate update from Big Sur to Monterey and thought nothing of it. Spent one and half hours on the phone with Apple support who rang me after I requested a call back. First technician gave up and passed me to a senior technician who tried a number of things while we shared the same view on my screen. He said it was a driver issue and yet he still went down the route of the HP Easy Smart download which I had already tried and couldn't fix the issue I had. Why I wonder wasn't he aware that the HP Intel version download was the way to go for usb cable connected printer drivers. I followed to the letter Akshay's route, the download and install only took a few minutes but it allowed me to finally select the software driver set from a huge list of HP printers. Once I picked the right printer series I could print documents. So much for the great Apple wiz bang wallop genius's. This should have been an easy fix for Apple to guide a customer to the right result. They ended up saying I would need to speak with HP who whose help line was a brick wall as my printer was well out of warranty. Great work Akshay !!! ******
