I studied audio engineering in college and I have a lot of knowledge on the information you are teaching. Your videos are clear, concise, easy-to-understand, and most importantly, accurate. I wish I had someone like you when I was just starting out. Today, you taught me about the importance of going from an XLR output into a quarter-inch line level input. I never realized about that before! (I own an USB mixer, so I never worried about this... but it's still important for me to know). Your tutorials are going to help so many young upstart home musicians to make more professional, better quality recordings of their products, as well as sharing some precious gems to even old dogs like myself - which is why I just became a subscriber of your Channel today, and plan on stearing young people to your channel from here on in.

I wanted to let you know, your videos are an extremely valuable teaching tool. I play guitar as a hobby, and mainly just plink around to please myself. A year or so ago when I wanted to get an audio interface, I came across your channel and ended up getting a 4i4 3rd generation. If memory serves, you gave the best description of what an audio interface is, and how to use it, compared to other people I watched. Your videos are interesting, focused, and a pleasure to watch. Thanks for what you do!

Great tutorial just 1 question. If condenser mic is plugged into the mixer with phantom power turned on , do we keep phantom power turned off on the audio interface?
@MusicRepo2 жыл бұрын
Yes, because the signal coming from your mixer is line level, so phantom power on interface will have no effect anyway. It should only be turned on on the audio interface if you plug in a condenser microphone using XLR. Your condenser mic will be powered by the mixer's phantom power.

I don't have that brand of mixer, to hear through headphones on my Behringer you need to press the Phones /Ctrl Room switch. However, this does not mute the speakers. So if you only want to hear the headphones, you'll have to turn your speakers off (if the controls are the same as mine)

I heard you say “Going to treat it as a non-usb mixer” - and if both being used will my DAW or audacity see both and use both usb inputs? Thanks so much for you help and your videos!

There are sometimes when I break this rule by using the mixers XLR out directly to the XLR inputs of the usb sound device. That's fine, you sound as if you know what you are doing and adjust accordingly 😀. Just pointing out for people very new to this. Many people don't understand how the combi inputs work on many of these kind of interfaces.

Hi, Can you help please? I'm using a Behringer XENYX 802, (mains - not USB) into a Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD Pre-amp. The Pre-amp has "Line" and "INST" settings, plus a "PAD" button, but I have 2 anomalies compared to your instructions on choosing settings. In order to get a good volume, I need to have "PAD" switched on, (i.e. pushed in,) but when I select "Line," the volume is significantly less than choosing "INST." But irrespective of what setting I choose, when I plug my guitar into either the "MIC" or "LINE IN 3/4" sockets on the XENYX 802, I get a delay - i.e. latency, when recording into "Audacity.". Can you advise what you feel I may be doing wrong, please? Thanks, in anticipation. Alan

The only thing I'll point out is I've seen many people use a setup like this, but get don't understand the DAW is only getting 2 tracks (Left & Right). They say I have 4 things plugged into the mixer why aren't they showing up as 4 tracks in my DAW. They don't understand the "Mixed" Left and Right is the only thing going to the audio interface not 4 individual signals. To get all 4 they would need to either use an audio interface with 4 inputs and not use the mixer. Or use a mixer with a built in audio interface that will send all the inputs of the mixer as separately to the DAW. I've seen this popup many times and thought worth mentioning.
