Thank you for your production. It was well done. Very easy to follow. Dependable results. It really helped that you were so clear with the "how and where" to connect without visual blockages such as your hands and fingers. As silly as it may sound, it makes a huge difference especially to a non tech guy like myself. Because of your guidance, I was able to connect my pre-amp to mixer with ease. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to reviewing other productions. Subscribed.

I have a question. Let's say I'm connecting to a very large mixer. One with 20+ Mic inputs. I understand that the main out is what's being connected to the Interface. But does that mean that all the audio will be sent into the Interface/laptop? I ask because if I'm trying to record a live performance, I don't understand how to send the audio out to the speakers/monitors as well as the Interface/laptop for recording. I've been trying to find info on this and haven't seen anyone explaining this sort of scenario. Please Help. I want to be able to record while the live music is being performed and heard in the room.

Great video very informative with a good breakdown of a complicated solution. Questions: 1. Why would I connect the mixer to an interface to do any type of recording? 2. What is the advantage of connecting the interface to the laptop, the mixer to the interface, and the MICs to the mixer? 3. Why wouldn’t I connect the mixer to the laptop, the interface to the mixer, and the MICs to the Interface?
@souvlaki99513 жыл бұрын
Not a big audio expert but I do have some experience in home recording, so this is just my opinion... 1. Might be a cheaper solution for anybody that wants more inputs to just get one of these rather than upgrading the interface itself. However impractical that maybe, it is entirely plausible that somebody might not want to trade in their interface for an additional two inputs (at double the cost) over spending just another $100 for a mixer with 4+ inputs. I believe though most people that will go for this option are going to be people with a lot of external gear, like synths, drum machines, samplers, etc., so that they can capture all of those elements together, be able to mix them, and then send it to their DAW easily after the fact. 2. Just being able to use the mixer in the manner of which I said in the last point is my guess. I can also see this being used for podcasters and small bands as well, essentially, just for anybody with a lot of inputs being able to capture the sum of their mixer output into a stereo track. 3. If the mixer has a USB output option available, you certainly can do that. Although it'd be kind of redundant, given the audio interfaces are more or less designed to be utilized for your computer... I'm going to guess that because of that, the signal might not come through entirely as one would want. I can kind of maybe imagine doing this if you're wanting to capture the audio of a computer going into the interface and out through the mixer, but that'd mean having another computer at the end of the routing so as to not have a feedback loop of sorts. Not really that practical.
@CullerCommentary2 жыл бұрын
Another possible use would be if you have a mixer with built-in hardware compression and/or limiter and don't want to have to purchase a pre-amped hardware compressor.

I’m sure you’re not supposed to use TRS balanced cables to connect LINE OUTPUTS to MIC/INSTRUMENT INPUTS . Yes, the MIC input is XLR but the INSTRUMENT input is Mono designed for TS cables. Better to use TS left and TS right for stereo signal in that case. Am i wrong?

Hey hey! So I’m trying to connect my Yamaha mG10xu to my interface and the output is SO HOT. However If I do just the usb output on the mixer the levels are perfect. My scenario is I want to be able to dual stream audio from my mG10xu to my iPhone (via usb camera adapter) AND my computer at the same time so I can stream to two services simultaneously (TikTok and Reddit). Any ideas on how I can send stereo XLR to my interface and computer with the mega hot levels?
@kettnercreative3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you’re using XLR cables. I would recommend using a XLR to 1/4” cable and connect the 1/4” cable to your interface. The input 1/4” input on your audio interface will be expecting the line level signal. The xlr input on your interface is expecting a mic level signal. Should solve your problem.

However, after I get a mix on the Model 12, I can send it to my DAW from the built in SD card. I am experimenting because I want to see if there is a difference by running the Model 12 to the interface as described in this video.
