Hi there! Great lesson! Can the letter ´´g`` in building be silent too? Could I also pronounce ´´ing`` plus ´´a`` like ´´na``? Because I learned that there are three ways of pronouncing the ´´ing``.
@elementalenglish
@elementalenglish 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Rodrigo. What are the 3 ways of pronouncing "ing" that you learned? As a verb, "building" can and often does get shortened to the more informal "buildin'". I would also say it's more common in some regions/cities of America to drop the "g" at the end of "ing" verbs, like parts of New York City. But it can be considered very informal and some would say it's "poor form" so be careful when you drop the "g" in -ing verbs. For example, use it with your friends, but not with your boss :) Some verbs often get the [g] dropped more than other verbs. For example, we frequently say "I'm hangin' out with my friends." Or "I'm goin' out to the store." That's more informal, but more common, everyday English. As a noun, "building" still has the [g] sound, but it's subtle. We don't release air from the back of our mouths and finish the [g] sound if it's at the end of a sentence. But if we connect speech with the [g] + a vowel, the [g] is then more fully pronounced at the beginning of that vowel. Does this help?

Another excellent video! I have a question. "How important do you think it is for non-native speakers to sound like native speakers? Is a French, Spanish, Japanese accent a negative thing to have, so long as it doesn't interfere with communication, or is it simply a part of the speaker's character, personality and identity? If the goal of a non-native speaker is to speak with a native accent, which accent should they be learning (North American? British? Australian?). Sorry, that's more than one question :)

I have a question to make of you if you please. What do we say writing on a letter several times? Note that there's one letter on paper and you are writing on the same letter again and again. The result of doing so makes the letter look very thick and blunt.

I've never seen a video: connecting verbs in the past + other words. How to pronounce "worked at the", "worked here", "worked there", "lived at", "painted ever", "typed the". Connecting verbs in past + prepositions/adverbs/conjunction is more difficult for beginners.

You inspire me about how to imitate American native speakers. When I first Watched your videos, I was so happy to find what I kept searching for for a long time. But I was disappointed to find the newest video was uploaded a year ago.I watched most of the videos without reading the comments as I didn't expect that you me replay to any of them after a year. When I notice that you replied to a comment some hours ago I didn't believe. I 'm so excited about your channel, very happy to communicate with you, and very eager to watch new videos. Thank you so much.

Dear Friends, I'm looking for someone to act out this dialogue between two friends and recorder in order to send it to me in audio version. I need it to play it in the classroom with my pupils. They need to be exposed to native speakers. I could choose an avaible conversation on the net but I need this one cause it contains the grammatical features I need to teach them. Thanks in advance Maya: good morning Hadi. How are you? Hadi: fine. Maya : what's wrong? Hadi : nothing. Maya: come on, tell me what's wrong? Hadi: I told you nothing. Maya: there must be something. Are you angry with me? Hadi: I’m just upset. Maya: and why are you upset? Hadi: ok. You made fun of me. Maya: No!! I didn't. Hadi: yes!! You did!!. You said that I was stupid. Maya: When? Hadi: Yesterday, in front of all my classmates. Maya: Did I? I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that. Hadi: But you did. Maya: Yes, but it's just because I had to say something funny to make the others have a laugh. Hadi: I'm sorry, but you needn't have said that to me. Maya: Ok, Hadi. I'm really sorry. I realize that I was wrong.
