Connecting a MIDI Keyboard to an iPhone XS Max!

Many were wondering if wired headphones could be connected together with the external keyboard / mic and unfortunately it's not possible using the method in this video. HOWEVER, there's another way to do it, thanks to Voltaire Carandang for sharing it with me in the comments. @@numemo not sure if they ever found an answer. It sometime depends on the order that you plug adapter to phone. is adapter plugged to phone before plugging to midi keyboard? or vise a versa?

thanks because I mean, its nice to play but I want to connect it to speaker, the speakers of the iphone dont make much noise and I want to use the mic, use reverb on the phone and send it to a speaker. I wish the old 3.5 mm plug would still be there....

You should also get a powered usb hub so you can connect your midi controller, microphone, and other usb at the same time to your iOS device.

he didn’t change a setting, he turned up the phone cause he was on the bass setting and he clicked lower keys before going up a bit

@@josebecerra9813 Nope. There's latency/delay over bluetooth. You could listen to recorded music but you can't play. It's impossible to play keys when sound comes later.

Instead of using the charger you can use ur headphone adapter and plug in regular headphones also I think they have an adapter that has headphone jack and lightning connector

The X is the Roman numeral for Ten. So it's the iPhone TEN S. As in successor to the iPhone 8. They used numbers all the way up and they didn't randomly switch to letters for the X. It is just the iPhone Ten/Ten S.

My keyboard has only audio out not MIDI. I used a 1/4” to 3.5mm jack from the piano and plugged the other end of the 3.5mm cable into a Y splitter (mic and headphone) which is connected to the iPhone using lighting to audio cable. However in GarageBand I can only choose the audio recorder option not piano. If I choose piano and try to record as you show there is no audio ?

In order to control midi you need a midi controller. Are you sure there’s no USB ports on your keyboard anywhere? If not then you’ll have to buy a keyboard with midi, the nektar se 25 is only $50 & plug and play as well

Unfortunately not. I tried connecting headphones and the mic at the same time (using the extra lightning port and the lightning to aux port dongle) and an error message came up. This especially sucks because Bluetooth headphones will have a slight delay when you play anything.

It is frustrating. I’ve read that some ppl have been able to do it by connecting a USB hub to the dongle and then connecting an interface but I haven’t tried it myself yet. Either way it doesn’t sound like a very portable solution to me.

That could work and might be worth trying. I’m pretty sure if you buy the adapter and it doesn’t work for you, you can return it to Apple within a certain time period.
