Thanks a ton for this tutorial! I was brain-dead looking for a solution. Hundreds of people suggesting thousands of things, nothing to prove helpful. An original camera adapter is the key, that’s the purchase i need to make.

In line with the above trail: I bought the original Apple "Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter" for my iPad 2020, and it works flawlessly. My Arturia MiniLab MKII connects to my iPad without any external power with this upgrade.

this was driving me crazy IOS 11 on Ipad Air 2 not enough power messages on a cheap 4 way camera USB adapter and hotswapping with mpk plugged into hub . I bought a USB 3.0 to lightning camera adapter (500ma) and it MPK mini worked straight away , no messages and by using unpowered hub was able to connect my Korg Nanopad 2 too

Someone commented asking if an external battery will work. I tried 3 batteries I have and none of them worked. Make sure you use the correct power adapter for this to work.

I have some large batteries I use. The smaller one is close to the size of a deck of cards and the other is even bigger (it has 2 outputs for an extra device). Connect (enough) power to camera kit adapter before other devices . Small batteries, like the one my wife has in her purse for her phone, won’t work.

An unpowered adapter also works, but first power on the midi device, and after that power on the ipad, The other way ,First ipad and then midi device wont work.

Good question. I will be trying to figure out this next. I think what we all want are drum sounds on the pads and keyboard sounds on the keyboards. Currently I get sounds from the drum pads, but they are for the instrument currently connected.

Do You Like Gear? Same; I think for the computer you have to download the software that you get a code for with the keyboard. Maybe you could try downloading the software on iPad, though I don’t know for certain how that would work

You probably already know by know, but yes you can use the pads on the keyboard to play drums (or other sounds as well). You can use the drums from your Daw, which in my case is Garageband.

Do not direct the (akai usb to lightning connector), you need a usb to usb port so that you cannot use charging

I don't have an iPhone, but I don't see why not. You will have to have it plugged in when using it to power the keyboard.

Connecting the keyboard is easy but you obviously did not test if your shiny knobs and pads are working in GarageBand; because they don’t. Please let us know how you did map those controllers to the ones from the Alchemy Synth f.i. (Garageband has no midi learn).
