When I'm doing the Schneider DBs I swap the bottom with the top lids so you can gland to the centre, then you can also add the other armoured cables where ever you want, without having to use the knockouts provided. Just a tip I use myself 👍 top content by the way

Last time I installed those they required 6a fuses on the CTs and 250mA fusing on the voltage side to protect the meters. Pretty sure the drawings specify this in the greyed out A and B sections. Unless they are LVCT but they usually use patch leads

@@residualelectrical Nice, I need to look at using those next time. Its a pig of a job trying to get CTs on in the tight cableways! Would save a few headaches. Out of interest, What is the Veto bag you are using to carry your multifunction? Looks like a giant version of my MB3

Interesting current transformer. In general voltage transformers have a high impedance on the primary and low impedance on the secondary, current transformers are the other way around. You can have multiple turns on a current transformer winding to change the ratio if desired. Was the wiring for the secondary premade by the manufacturer? We would only ever allow ring terminals on current transformer secondary wiring to reduce the danger of an open circuit secondary, although the module may have open circuit protection built in. One side of the secondary is usually earthed so the output isn't floating.
@mattyclark1981
@mattyclark1981 2 жыл бұрын
Is there any sort of shorting link on the secondary side of those Schneider modules? Didn't look like it, but you need it if you ever have to change the meter out.

You can get double pole RCBOs for the Acti9 boards but they take up 2 ways and you have to fit a distributed neutral kit as the don't use the neutral pick up for the Isobar P RCBOs. Hopefully Schneider look at that soon.
@uplightuk8924
@uplightuk8924 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting that the Schneider RCBOs don’t isolate both poles - I’ve been using them this whole time assuming that they were like any other RCBO. Good job I’m mainly a domestic spark so in most cases isn’t the end of the world if it isn’t DP lol

Question bud, usually for me when doing a DB like that. I would have taken the main earth from the 5 core armour upto the earth bar at the top of the DB and connected a fly lead from the banjo to the DB case with some brass hardware at the banjo and the supplied hardware to mount to the case. Do you have any earth up at the bar?

Hi, whoever has installed the mccbs hasn't installed the terminal shields, you have to order these seperatley. You now have a PB that should be form4 that is now potentially dangerous as it has exposed parts when the front cover is removed. You can obviously install a label on the front to highlight the danger, but it is not a proper job. Also, you're using the wrong type of crimper for the type of cable, the "nut cracker" is for flexible/h07 cable with fine strands (class 5 cable). You need to use the hex type crimper for the cable type you have used (class 2 cable). Hope this helps 👍
@dipdobdab9202
@dipdobdab9202 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right, it is 3b when configured as 3 pole. When my company installs powerpacts we usually install the 4 pole system, which is normally within our clients spec. Maybe I just assumed the PBs were form4 due to the name (powerpact4) 😖. I suppose it also makes sense to bin the neutral bar in case of any potentials. ETS normally have good hire rates for crimpers. Cheapest I can think of to buy is the HT51, but is obviously not an electric one 🤙

Ref the banjos all we ever use to do was make sure you had good contact to the board ( scrap the paint ) ( not a banjo in site 😁) now it’s brass banjo must have brass nut and bolt ref bringing the 25 mm directly under the main switch yes u only do it once 😂

Not sure about this but aren't CTs now semi conductor based using hall effect sensors?
@fohdeesha
@fohdeesha 2 жыл бұрын
Hall effect sensor based CTs exist, but they're more expensive, more complex, and typically have a very strict current monitoring range, so not a good fit in load panels where faults could cause very high temporary currents - in a typical transformer CT, large transient currents like faults and motor starts etc would only cause a split second of transformer saturation and nothing else, whereas a hall effect sensor would be damaged. The big advantage of hall effect sensing for current is that they can measure DC currents, so DC applications is where you'll mostly find them

Is it completely forbidden to work on a board thats live? As long as all circuits are mounted or the live parts are covered it shouldn’t be a problem? I know that i’m a bit sloppy with safety sometimes but it’s common over here to work within live boards as long as we’re trained and the level of safety is good enough. Working next to live parts in distribution cabinets is almost impossible to avoid.

How are the meters read, are they connected via ethernet or modbus or something. Or do they have to do it locally?

@declannocher2049
@declannocher2049 2 жыл бұрын
I've been been instructed by certain project engineers to do this in all cases so that they can confirm that it's there. My reply was to say that if there's a brass bolt sticking up it should be pretty fucking obvious, but as it is, who cares, I guess it's preference of some people.
@impactvision

if you are not using brass locknuts then it is good practice to have the banjo with brass on brass contact with the cable gland body especially if you are using it as a cpc.
