Connecting TWO DJ controllers to Serato DJ Pro

My curiousity led me to pluggin in both my DDJ-SB2 and DDJ-SB3 controllers at the same. Here is what happened.

Heh funny. I assumed this was possible, I used to do this trick back in 2012~ish with Traktor plugging two Hercules controllers into my system. Worked the same way as this in Serato. I just didn't, like you, try that out. Despite being a DJ since '98, I learn stuff every day from your channel @Pri. Thanks for that. I too have a DDJ-SB2 at home.

Maybe it's new for Serato DJ, but this ability has been around since 2009 with Traktor Pro 1, obviously because Traktor has a more advanced midi mapping system and it makes customizing controllers a lot easier. If one DJ were to use this setup, then I guess it's fine if that's how they want or like to DJ. But among two DJs, I see it somewhat problematic that they'd have to share the same library of music and playlists, UI layout, and customized effects.

So in my home studio - my spring project is building a new shelf that will house both of my setups - Roland dj 505 and a Numark Scratch with two Turntables - i’d like to use the separately - but with the same computer (macbook/Imac - the imac is always there but I am downsizing to just the macbook soon)while leaving them always set up. I have the same setup, I use an extra laptop so I can play back2back (Daisychain) with my self :) before the sb3, I used a ddj-sp1 with ddj-sb2. The ddj-sb3 is a combination of both :) BTW love watching your channel

@@CAIDO. I recently tried this and the answer seems to be behind the paywall lol. The DDJ400 only unlocks Rekordbox use specific to that controller (as far as I understand). Will update you if I decide to pay for Rekordbox lol.

I'm about to try a 4 channel controller as my main and a rev 1 on the side as deck 3 and 4. So in theory I can keep my crossfader and headphones while using the rev one deck 3 and 4 .

E-1621 no because the 400 does not have the 1/3 2/4 deck switch controls. It’s strictly a 2 channel controller.

I found your video through a search about combining multiple pieces of Serato hardware. I was thinking of doing something similar by combining my analog turntables DVS with the SL3 and an sb3 running them through my Behringer NOX 404 mixer. I have everything but the Serato SL3 box. Hopefully it would result in 4 decks and just loads of options for a lot of flexibility. What are your thoughts?

It cannot be done. Serato is the only DJ software that doesn't allow you to reallocate the sound card.

I guess the cross fade would be an annoyance but since you have 4 separate deck volume controls, as in 1 for each channel, what is the need to only dedicate one deck side for vocals? You can control each Channels sound and also the Software can isolate bass/harmonics/vocals so what am I missing?

You cannot. Only one soundcard at a time will work with Serato... and it's the first one that is plugged in.

I tried this with two SX-2's and although both controllers connected it wouldn't let me control each deck independently. When i switched between deck 1 on one controller it would switch to deck 1 on the other controller. Not sure if its cause im using the same controller or what but its no working how you'res showed :\

I know this was posted awhile ago but I’m now getting back into the business. How do you hook up HID mode in Serato DJ Pro with (2) CDJ-3000 & DJM-A9 with (2) laptops so djs can changed between sets?

Switch HID from laptop to laptop the neatest on a club mixer. On a battle mixer like the DJM-S11 and DJM-S7, there is a built in hub. So your two laptops only need one USB connection each. But on a DJM-A9, it’s a bit different. You will need a hub, and only one laptop at a time can be connected to the HID. Connection is as follows. DJM-A9’s two USB ports should be plugged directly to the laptops (no hubs.) On a USB hub, you connect each CDJ, and connect that to the playing computer. When you’re ready to switch, the DJ playing should play a long song, then unplug (yes unplug) the USB hub and connect to the other computer. Then setup HID again. That’s how it’s done when using a club mixer. For added control, some folks put a Serato ttimecode file on a flash drive and have it on standby on the CDJs, just in case there’s any issue with HID, they can use DVS. Some DJs play with one on HID with the other with DVS.

Field Shortt I’m only using a MacBook Air, and when I play live, I have the latency set to 2, with my WiFi and Bluetooth on. And on top of that, I’m running Boss Tone Studio in the background, controller my guitar multieffects hardware. I used to use a Pro but downgraded to an Air because it was overkill bringing a $2000 laptop to gigs. Google search, “Optimize your Mac for Serato”. It’s a very important list of things you HAVE TO do when using the latest supported OSX. Most importantly, shutting off the App Nap feature of Serato DJ. Look it up, it fixed my glitching that happened from updating my OSX.

Can’t be done with an SX2. You have to use two internal mixing controller. Generally would have to be entry level controllers. The SX2 is external mixing.

I’m unsure if you will be able to switch to deck 3/4 on the sb2 if it’s connected with an SX3. The reason is because the SX3 is externally mixed while the entry level controllers are internals. However; I haven’t tested it because I don’t have an SX3 on hand.

Did you know you don't have to upgrade to get 4 decks on VirtualDJ software? Matter of fact you can have as many decks as your computer can handle. Up to 99 decks available on Virtual DJ.

Connect a 2 channel and use a 4 channel as your main . Why? Now you have 4 completely independent decks fx pads , and can use the cross fader with the 4 channel mixer.

Roshan Kumar unlike the SB3, the RB doesn’t run natively with Serato DJ so it would require you to midi map it to do what I did. Also, because it will be mapped to midi, the jog wheels will not respond as accurately, since the high resolution protocol for the jog wheels (as used for its native software) is not open for custom mapping.
