Intuitive explanations Ron. Thanks a bunch. I figured my boom mic wasn't working for some simple reason. Would it be safe to assume that connecting external speakers to the headphone side of the jack would work the same way as headphones would?

Well explained. My question is, why can't I hear my microphone from the MacBook speakers? There is no output from the microphone, yet the speakers will work when KZbin is running. Do I need a splitter as you showed?

Thank you, Ron! I got the TRRS plug and the two adaptors for the mic and headsets and it actually recognizes the mic but no sound yet, I tried two different mics and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Any recommendation? I'd appreciate it!

i have a 2 cables, a TRS and TRS specificall for cameras and 2nd cable is a TRS > TRRS and works fine on my iPhone but when i connect the same cable to my Macbook using the TRS (connected to the external mic) > TRRS male to Macbook 3.5mm port - it does not work. do i still need to get a TRRS splitter?

hello, can you help me understanding what i need to buy? On amazon i have found 2 adapters with a TRRS male jack. One works only with TRS plugged in both the female IN and the other works wiht only TRRS plugged in both the female IN. I want to connect my Mixer (DJM 750 MK2) to the Mac Pro (2019) for streaming or recording sets. I have connected an RCA cable with a TRS jack plug, but the following happens: The Mac does not always recognize the external microphone and when it does, no signal gets through. Both with the streaming software OBS and with Audiocity to record sets. Does anyone have the solution?

I have a different issue - if I plug my Rode Video Go mic into my 2020 MacBook Pro using only the trrs cable that comes with the mic, my MacBook actually detects it as an external mic - only the signal from the mic is dead. I assume it’s not getting power from the Mac. Is this a different issue or do you think the jack splitter your using will solve the issue?

Thanks for this. One further tip... you need to plug the headphones and the mic into the adapter BEFORE you plug the adapter into the Mac’s port. Plugging them in afterwards does not work.
