Connections 305 - NYT Word Game - 11 April 2024

The New York Times is back with another new daily word game, Connections! This is heavily inspired by "The Wall" from the BBC quiz show Only Connect. You must sort the sixteen given words into thematically appropriate groups of four--and you only have a few opportunities for error! I don't know if I'll be solving this every day but I'm giving it a shot for now at least. We'll see how it goes. Let me know how you like it!

Yesterday we had a missing word as blue and today we have a missing word as yellow!

i think generally these "missing word" groups that aren't purple are those that all use the common word in the same way - like nuts or haircuts - while true missing word groups are a bit more varied

Another Connection for the purple, which is equally valid: "Little____" "Little Colonel" book and movie starring Shirley Temple; "Little Mermaid" popular Pixar film; "Little King" nationally syndicated comic strip from my childhood (think 1958 and earlier); "Little Clown" famous silent film, a pizza brand, a cartoon character - take your pick!!

got the fast food last, didn't know the Mermaid, Starbucks isn't a big thing here in Italy!

I got purple first. Colonel in this list jumped out to me. Only could think of it as kfc mascot.

I got purple as my third category and blue as the last. I realised the category with clown, colonel and king, but I just assumed mermaid because it was the only other animate noun. I didn't know Starbucks was a mermaid

To me fast food was 2nd because when I see Colonel that's immediately where my mind goes. Definitely only got Mermaid from a guess I never think of Starbucks as having a mermaid mascot nor do I think of it as fast food.

I actually got the purple category first. Mermaid and Colonel stood out immediately.

Thanks for doing these online Chris. One niggle - when I click on the thumbnail the play often begins well into the solve and I need to scroll back to the beginning (I often pause there and try to solve on my own). I think this is on your end rather than the Viewer's .

That has to do with how KZbin handles shorts. It autoplays while you are selecting the video, and after you select it, it continues where the autoplay got to. So nothing he can do about it, it's purely on KZbins side

@@thwwoodcraft1449 this is not a short. But it works as described for videos - while you hover over it, it starts playing (without sound) and takes that play time into account when clicking through. I just hit 0 on the keyboard to quickly reset the video to 0%.
