"Fare" in the theme "Pixar fare" was meant to specifically clue you in on the food aspect of the theme. I initially went out looking for food-related Pixar characters like "Mr. Potato-head" but then I quickly found ratatouille. Loved today's theme!

Yeah, I never saw Ratatouille, just assumed the title was the name of the lead character, I too went searching for Pixar titles and was just confused when all that popped up was food items. I eventually slogged through it, with the help of two hints, but I never really understood it.

I don't like the fact that there are clearly 4 NBA teams in the puzzle. When there are more than four groups of four then the game becomes a coin flip. This was just poor puzzle editing in my opinion.

I fell for it too. When they do this the odd category out is usually using one word from each of the real groups, so you can avoid the trap by finding two non-overlapping categories before you make your first guess. Sometimes they use position to hint at the red herring (e.g. it might the entire top row, or one of the diagonals), but that wasn't true today as far as I could see.

@@Jason820 The first thing I do every time when I start the puzzle is to click the Shuffle button so that I won't be thrown by the editor's layout choices. I wish Chris would do that too.

I liked how the two Hawaiian clues are repeated words. It helped me get MAHIMAHI after I got NENE. Is this a common thing in Hawaiian or did the setters specifically choose these words?

basically the mandelbrot set is a graph of numbers that either diverge off to infinity or remain stable when plugged into a relatively simple equation. it's related to the reimann zeta function, which is part of one of the largest unsolved problems in math, if you want to go down a rabbit hole. this is a short video that explains mandelbrot pretty well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHiwg3VqhJ5laKs

Ok sorry for the spam but the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe is a personal favorite of mine, for two reasons. One, it's almost verbatim the story of Romeo and Juliet: young lovers belonging to enemy families, they arrange to meet in secret in order to flee together. Because of a misunderstanding Pyramus believes that Thisbe is dead and takes his own life, then she finds him and does the same (read the whole story from Ovid's Metamorphoses!). Two, in the spot where the young lovers were supposed to meet, but commit suicide instead, grows a tree with white fruits. By the Gods' will, the tree soaks up their blood and the fruits turn red. That's where mulberries get their colour from, according to the myth.

Commedia dell'arte is a form of unscripted theatre, that revolves around stereotypical characters, often with marked regional connotations ("maschere", literally masks). It was popular between the 1500s-1700s approximately. Oh, and Ted Mosby is the narrating character of "how I met your mother" 😅

The tricky part of the Abba clue is that “Take A Chance On Me” is also 15 letters and it could be an answer in a different theme. I wasted a little time on that wrong answer before I figured out the theme. It was nice to see how fast you could really solve a puzzle when you weren’t narrating (you beat me by 53 seconds) but it’s not a great watch.
