"ok this also works if your lunging" - proceeds to do the thing with invisible tack. ROFL !! Great video.

You'll see we have a 'take it or leave it' attitude to tack around here 🤣Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks so much for this video. I've been struggling with the abrupt stop particularly after trot poles. He stops dead at the click and nearly go over his head 😂 also at liberty he stops dead and turns into me if he was trotting. He is old and I worry about his hips. I have just done canter, down to walk and then click and reward. He seems to know the treat was for the canter somehow. He is used to having to do multiple tasks for one reward. But i will definitely try this technique.

Please, Can you do a video on that saddle???? It looks quite interesting.

Good idea! It's a panelled saddle so a little unusual :-)

Sorry I'm a bit confused. I'm missing the cue to stop; what are you doing to ask the horse to stop? It looks like you are clicking the horse to get him to stop, but I know that can't be right. I do CT w my horse and he stops on the verbal cue of 'Whoa", then I click and treat him. He DOES stop abruptly tho, so I was very interested in watching this! I started elongating the "Whoooooooaaaaa" and that does seem to help him elongate the movement a bit. Anyway, I'm not seeing/hearing your cue to stop. Thanks!

Sounds like breath cues. She does a notable exhale which when ridden is often what people do before sitting deeper in the saddle which will become a part of the cue too

The click is the horses "release" cue to stop the behavior so he can be rewarded. (you can add a verbal cue before, and still click and reward) To keep them from stopping abruptly she takes a couple steps between the click and the reward. So the horse learns to take a few steps as well.
