He might die so young , but his memories live on Forever in Mason City, Iowa and Clear Lake, Iowa. After see movie video and later 2015 my first time at Surf Ballroom. Was like dream come true. Finished high school in Iowa back 1983. No one told me story not my DJ in Mason City, Iowa. First couldn’t understand why my friends listen Rock n Roll love songs. Now know more then was back 1980s Richie Valens and Buddy Holly dvd though was great idea, ones on plane . Always remember them Forever. I know do every time drive my Clear Lake ,Iowa On way to Forest City Iowa next year be 35 years out high school. Richie Valens Music , still enjoy classic hits songs. Most Fans agree 100%. Truly beautiful story that Connie and Richie was very close.

Same for me, too! Luis Valdez, Esai Morales and Lou Diamond Philips capture the Mexican-American essence in the film is magical. I have a hard time explaining the dynamics, the experience of a Mexican-American family: the tough times and the good times, abuelita showing her love by cooking homemade rice and beans and tortillas, fighting with each other but being there for each other no matter what. I tell people to watch "La Bamba" then you'll get some idea what it means. When I watch it, it hits my Mexican side hardcore; I don't need to think about it...I FEEL it. La Bamba talks to our soul!

How COOL! Had no idea. What a joy! NOTHING but respect for the Iowa people who still SO appreciate Buddy and Ritchie and JP, even after ALL these years! The venue is still gorgeous and so well maintained ... the giant pair of glasses on the highway and the marking of the crash site ... These things really matter to me, as I was just a kid of 11 or 12, but even still, a BIG fan of all three of these guys. I began playing a Stratocaster because of Buddy and Ritchie, and still play, after 62+ years ...

When I get a chance I visit Ritchie grave site; my granddaughter didn't know who he was until I asked her if she knows the song La Bamba she did and then I educated her about Ritchie by taking her to his grave site..and we sat and talked about Ritchie and played his music . She is now his forever fan.

The way it sounds, to me anyway, is that the people there are still huge fans of her brother and are like her extended family. It's a place where his life and the memory of that last show he played there are still celebrated. She seems to love it there. Big Bopper's son Jay said the same thing at one point about his dad, and how in the town in Texas where Bopper lived there wasn't even a memorial plaque but in Clear Lake Iowa, where Bopper spent only 8 or 9 hours out of his entire life, he's legendary.
