that clipping technique is incredibly interesting, i def gotta try it. i presume he's doing it because the box is so small and specific that normal pro-placement+clipping would push him out of the box
@omidj
@omidj 2 ай бұрын
Seems to me it's more likely to be because he doesn't want to deck and it will minimize how much extra slack he's being fed by his belayer. He stops doing it after the fourth piece, which lines up with preventing decking.

@@omidj I think he's just conserving energy with some planned placements. After those he's more in the moment.

Conner could always hang on forever; and recover quickly; he would boulder at comps for three hours then go out and just send rope routes. A master at body positioning; and note the footwork ( not toes/ boot just straight on the tip of the boot.) And very few high placements; thus shortening the time to place ; the length of any possible falls; snd creating less possible rope / gear interference with movement. And it looks like he already has climbers foot

What's the point of the low first piece? Prevent the zipper?
@adamforestier3351
@adamforestier3351 Ай бұрын
A low first piece with no extension keeps the rope taut against the wall so there is less outward pressure from the rope on placements - helps keep gear from walking or changing gear's orientation from vertical to horizontal :)

Why was he showing off by putting those things in the rock? He should have just clipped the bolts like any normal person. Well I enjoyed the unusual technique. Well done young man!

I believe he was aid-climbing, a true climber would place protection and not clip the rope into it.
@DJ-dm5km

@@zennydoo yeah you don’t really climb until you have a triple rack, you sew it up, not clipping any gear and have an 11 mm rope dangling from you, fix the rope at the top, and then do a heinous down climb off the backside
@kentjohnson873
@kentjohnson873 Ай бұрын
Do you see bolts on that route? he has obviously (or maybe not obvious) climbed this route many, many times. he knows what he's doing, LoL. This is all very carefully choreographed. At his "limit".
