Which option would you prefer they choose: 1) Penalty on Garland only - Canucks would be angry about no call for McDavid's gloved punch to the back of Garland's head, and as the play wouldn't have immediately stopped, McDavid probably still does the cross-check. 2) Call both - play stopped with about 10 seconds left for some 4 on 4. Oilers would be angry about an attacking possession being taken away at a critical moment. 3) Let them play - allows things to escalate and in this situation led to McDavid losing his cool. Doesn't seem like there is a great choice in those three.

I think the ref may have thought that blowing the whistle and calling a penalty would have benefited Vancouver more than Edmonton. The Oilers were buzzing and stopping the play is probably what the Canucks wanted. I think that's why the Canucks player held on to McDavid for that long. I think he wanted a whistle.

The Goalie penalties I think are a little weird. I'M NOT SURE, but I think they send a player from the bench to the box instead of making the Goalie switch, so it's probably why so many people got off the ice. I didn't see the need for all ice players to get a minor, I was just thinking Mcdavid, and Myers get majors, and maybe Garland for interference/roughing

What Garland responded with was nothing... and then he gets crosschecked in the chin/throat. Match penalty for McDavid deserved, dont think garland deserved anything there. Myers... wild. absolutely Match penalty. Garland should've punched Draisaitl for being a whiny german though.
@Masettini975 сағат бұрын
Are you actually blind?! Do you really think McDavid would sit on Garland with 20 seconds left trailing one goal. It’s Garland holding him so he can’t get up and when he manages to get up (ofc with a punch - pretty justified) he get’s grappled to the ground once again completely out of play. I’m telling you 95% of hockey players are doing the crosscheck or something worse.

If there's a penalty with less than 10 seconds other team that didn't take penalty first should get a penalty shot. That could cost Edmonton the game and cost Vancouver nothing with a penalty only 2 seconds left.

Starting a fight while another fight is happening is also penalized harder when really both guys did the exact same thing by fighting an opponent

3-4 for both McDavid and Myers. The Mcdavid one was brutal. He stares right at garland, not even focused on the play anymore, and cross checks him right in the neck/side of the head. Myers is an idiot aswell. Bouchard definitely said something, but that doesnt warrant a cross check to the chin. Both are idiots. Mcdavid however, is starting to become one of the dirtiest players in the league. And its the leagues fault for letting him push the boundaries. He shouldve been suspended vs the wild, and now this? I would honestly argue 4 for mcdavid, and 3 for myers.

Yes there should be a penalty call on garland, but oilers had possession anyways so refs couldn’t blow it dead anyways.. also mcdavid did hold garland down at first and gave him a punch as well

If the ref blows the play dead because Garland is holding McDavid, Edmonton would be upset because they had control of the puck.
@thomasburnside13816 сағат бұрын
I don’t think that’s the problem. Obviously Mcdavid hitting to the head is BAD and he shouldn’t get away with that. But the refs arm ONLY went up after Mcdavid’s cross check, meaning the ref was looking the other way while garland was holding for an insane amount of time. So yeah that sums up the atrocious refereeing from tonight.
@tonyto1968Сағат бұрын
Mcdavid was on top of garland for most of that exchange. Punches him in the head with 12s left. Garland commits a holding/interference penalty with 10s left. Puck is loose and the oilers don’t get possession until 8s left. Even if a ref had his arm up for a garland penalty, and the oilers immediately give the Canucks possession to get a whistle. The Canucks could have just not touched the puck and let the clock run out too. Let’s say the Canucks do take possession, The oilers have what - 6s if they win a draw to try to score 6 on 4? Miller was also owning the oilers in the face off dot. The outcome was likely decided before the exchange between garland and mcdavid.
