Seriously, how many American shows back then, animated or otherwise, even bothered bringing up a sensitive topic like this episode did? Canadian shows like Braceface and 6teen were definitely ahead of the curve when i came to talking about this kind of thing. Shows like Big Mouth leaned into talking about it too heavily, and Disney shows just recently started talking about it less than 8 years ago, but they're a little too delicate. For the time this episode came out in, I'd say King of the Hill was able to hit that middle ground balance of being too heavy and to delicate when talking about a young woman getting her first period.

Ok, Story Time: I was 9 when I got my first period, it was during the summer, in the middle of a birthday party. I messed up 4 pairs of underwear, before I finally decided to hole myself up in the bathroom, and stay on the toilet. I was in there for about an hour and a half, when my aunt Joyce came knocking. I told her to get my mom. She did, my mom came in, I told her what was going on, and she instantly put two and two together. So, while I continued to chill on the toilet, she went to my dad to tell him what was up. I could actually hear him start crying in the living room. Anyway, he was tasked with going to Eckerd's (pharmacy chain from back in the day), and getting me what I needed. Man, he was crying as he left the house, he boo hooed during the drive there, he boo hooed at the store, on the way back, and when he got back, he passed the supplies to my mom, then shut himself in the bedroom, and just continued to cry while making peace with the fact that his baby girl was starting to grow up. Gods, I love my dad. Rest in Peace. 😂🤣😭
