Cher was never more beautiful than when she was singing next to Sonny! What a team, never missed their show when I was a young boy.. God Bless Sonny & Cher, and you too post-er!

Also, being very youthful and still Natural is why she was so beautiful. The '70s & '80s was when she looked her best. All that changed after she did her Nose & Teeth in the '90s.

This is a very caring thing Sonny and Cher did for Captain "Spike". I love the way Cher focuses her attention on Spike. Very respectful and caring of Cher to do that. Sonny and Cher were/are so talented and caring. Thanks for sharing this video.

Oh, how I miss the 70's. Just good fun where you could just relax and laugh after laugh would happen. And those of you here saying that C&S destroyed the song, you've totally missed the whole point of the opening song of their show. It was just to have fun and good around and get the crowd lightened up for the show. They weren't out there in this first performance to dazzle and be all serious. So lighten up and just enjoy the lighthearted ness of it all. It's just good fun that no young people these days can understand and this comment thread is solid evidence of that. Variety shows were pne-of-a-kind and were there to help us all forget our troubles and to smile and maybe even dance a little in the living room. Again, I sorely miss the 70's. If that makes some of you call me an ok geezer, then so be it. I feel very blessed to have grown up through the late 60's, all through the 70's and into the Punk Rock days of the early 80's. What a great time to be alive and young through those decades. (I'm 50 now).

Al Scarbrough Well said Al, these 2 were great together and this moment with Spike was truly touching. I’m glad to get the chance to watch this show as a kid every week. So funny and warm. What happened to these times. Today’s generation would ridicule this show but we know better.

Al Scarbrough I agree 1000% with you. I’m 52 and I absolutely loved the 70’s and the 80’s shows. The best years of my life growing up and becoming a young adult.

Brings back memories when I was kid and I loved to watch this show. Man I feel old watching this. Cher was so glam and beautiful. I love Sonny too but man he could not sing. But together they made their songs work.

We have this entire show on our DVD set & the ending is even more touching than the opening. They dedicated "I Got You Babe" to the POWs & you can tell that Sonny is especially moved. These 2 were great together!

What fun this show was to watch every week. The music was live musicians I believe not like today where everything is fake or auto tuned. The music today is over run with non music music like rap and hip hop. Just saying those were the days back with Sonny and Cher. Really miss Sunny. Never got over that. Such a cute song well done and funny monologue. Where has all the time gone? Still have my old POW bracelet in a jewelry box. Found out about them from this show!!!!!!!

Sonny was the genius behind the scene and in front as well.. He created Sonny and Cher; just like Desi Arnaz was the brain behind the creation/production of "I Love Lucy" 21 years prior (1950s)

August 19, 2015 Sonny Bono has passed away for quite some time while skiing , I forget where this happened and the date of his tragic skiing accident, I found him funny and very amusing. Cher is still singing and I've always loved their music and t.v. show. To Cher - you're quite phenomenal and I'll continue to listen to your singing!!!! :-)

Sonny Bono was killed in a skiing accident on Jan. 5, 1998 near South Lake Tahoe, Calif. He was 62, and a Republican U.S. Representative from California at his death.

I remember so clearing playing with toys in front of the TV with my family watching this. Variety shows were still on top. They were more exciting than a stale sitcom. You looked forward to the guests and what skits they would do.

While I have always loved the music of Sonny and Cher, I really didn't like them when they did covers of other music. This is a perfect example. This version is just rushed and sounds hollow when compared to the original version by Hurricane Smith. I understand that they had to incorporate other compositions into their show (I watched it as a young kid), but woudl rather have seen the other compositions come from guest stars instead of them ruining it.

The FAKE added whistles on those 70's variety shows were SO annoying. I can see why variety shows finally died out. There were only a few funny or entertaining moments in these hour-long shows. The best of them all was the Carol Burnett Show.
