So glad to have come across your video....We did it in December 2019 from Uluru to Laverton ...during covid times...could not stop at all and had to drive the whole day with all the fuel that we needed .... about 19 hours ...Were glad to get to Laverton as we had literally about 8 lt of diesel left from 240 Lt..!!! The wind was against us all the way.... and yes those gusts ... i can feel them now Can't wait to go back and do it again at some point ....taking our time next time Good luck with everything

Did this from East to West in January 2000 with my wife and 10 month old son, 1100kms of dirt. Stayed overnight at Tjukayirla Roadhouse and woke up to rain. Interesting drive to Laverton. All in a Subaru Forester. Ended up living at Kaltukatjara (Docker River) a few years later. Also, velcro and thick plastic for the door vent, works a treat.

That spot where the trailer exploded was caused by the brakes catching fire and spreading to the load (Ammonium Nitrate !!!) the driver managed to unhook the trailer and drove 3k's up the road. The explosion was heard at communities & mines 40 k's away and it left a crater in the road 3m deep.

I loved to watch the lightning storms in the Australian outback. Lightning storm is very spectacular to watch in the sky. Have you seen lightning storms in Yulara by the resort village and the campground by Ayers Rock or Uluru in the Australia’s Northern Territory. You had seen lightning in Warakurna and into Warburton in Western Australia. It is a typical desert climate to watch lightning and the desert rain. I loved the desert lightning storms. Beware of the flash floods in the Docker River and be safe during a summer thunderstorm. The roads can be closed during storms because the dangers of flash floods during the summer thunderstorms. Lightning is very spectacular to watch in the summer sky when it rains especially by Uluru Ayers Rock and watch in the township of Yulara. I love lightning and it is fun to watch. 🌩️⚡️⛈️

Do you actually need a 4WD to do this road? It all looked pretty good to me. You did mention some soft bits. Were they short sections (less than 100m) of soft or were they great lengths of soft road. Did you have your rig in 4WD at all? That old Kingswood van seems to indicate that 2WD is fine up to there at least. The website says you need a 4WD but do you actually need one to get the permits to travel through there?
@Livin_Like_Kings_ Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, yes! I would never tow anything let alone a rig like mine on a remote road like that in 2wd! You never know what the road will be like till you get there, you might get luck and discover it’s easy and everyone is over reacting, or the conditions might have been crap like it raining! I would want 4WD in that instance! Always be cautious and you probably won’t end up as a cautionary tale!
@MrGundawindy Жыл бұрын
@@Livin_Like_Kings_ I agree. But did you actually use 4WD? Because I wouldn't be towing and I wouldn't try if it has been raining. I probably won't even try it, just wanting to know if it would be possible and the footage you used looks like it would be easy in a 2WD van.
@Livin_Like_Kings_ Жыл бұрын
@@MrGundawindy I was in 4WD for the first 250-300kms due to the road being badly damaged. After that, 2wd all the way to Uluṟu! But that was last year. When you go to do it, it might be good, might be bad but we did see some 2wd vans and sedans along the way
