Great vlog and a great series. Back in 2014 I was fortunate to spend seven weeks at Sesto Calende at the bottom of Lake Maggiore attending a Leonardo AW189 Helicopter Type Course at the Leonardo training school in Sesto. At the weekends we often visited Arona, Stresa and up to the Swiss border. A beautiful area.👍

Andy, your tour videos are full of the innocence of a bygone era. As much as I enjoy them, the contrast to the reality of today’s world is almost too stark to bear.
@alanprice9938Ай бұрын
Interesting comment, I don’t quite follow where you are coming from……. Don’t you find that your trips, adventures and exploration have that outlook of getting away and getting out of the rat race? I’m not saying you are wrong, just suggesting it’s maybe a mindset or approach that one can choose to have, or not. Sometimes travelling around the Alps kinda draws that sense of timelessness out of us, so happens automatically.

My wife and I commissioned a scientific study of your Goldwing tour videos because we were toying with buying one ourselves. The study, undertaken by a multinational team of seven post grad mechanical engineering students, revealed a statistically significant recurring theme of nervousness on your part about taking the awesome beast through hair pin bends. This leads up to conclude that we may, in fact, be better off sticking with our aged Suzuki Vstrom 1000 with its industrial level water pump of a motor due to our close proximity to the Canadian Rockies and plethora of said hairpin bends? And who doesnt love a bridge???
@TheMissendenFlyer29 күн бұрын
That’s nowt to do with the Gold Wing (which handled them fine) - I’d be nervous on any heavily loaded bike two up on hair pins…which by the way in my experience tend to be more gnarly in Europe than Canada (in the main Canadian roads are much wider)…

@@TheMissendenFlyer I've had an 05 Wing and now own an 18 Wing. Over 50 years of riding all types of bikes, including the big touring versions, only 1 was a better "sport big tourer" and that was the 83-93 Yamaha Ventures. I had 2 of them over the years. Those V-4 engines and great handling allowed me to keep up with the sport bikers on the twisties 95% of the time. Been known to shave a bit of the centerstand off of them in the corners at times. @@TheMissendenFlyer Now if you'd gone up the road south as you passed through Visp, then kicked right up the Zermatt valley, or the Mattertal as it is, eventually you'd get to Tasch, and I think you'd might have to ditch the Honda and jump the train for the last few miles to Zermatt (certainly general cars are not permitted), when (cloud pending) the Matterhorn eventually reveals its astonishing self. Lago Majore is magnificent; especially Isola bella Island. You don’t need clear skies with radio telescopes 😄 Region around Zermatt and Saas is beautiful. Görnergrad and Klein Matterhorn are a must see. Steep up or downhill and then you have to stop 🫣. The ground then is very far away from your feet; often too far. The only thing you can and must do is quickly place the bike perpendicular to the road so one foot can, then easily, reach the ground. I had that a few times in hilly and light mountainous terrain. All went well😅

Very nice, Beautiful mountain ride again. Your hotel dining room reminds me of a work trip. 45+ years ago. As teenager. I stayed for week in a Grand Old Italian hotel with a huge almost empty dinning room. Unfortunately no bar. More waiters than customers. Always the same people at the same tables. An old man in black in corner, An Old Lady in black with a slightly younger man in Black and my mate and I in T shirts and jeans. lots of different people came and went to the old mans in blacks table. They never stayed long. Didn't seam to matter what time we came and went he was always there. By the 2nd day we would nod or wave politely. I never spoke to him, I don't know any Italian. I only ever heard the head waiter speak english. At the time I'd never hear of Palermo. In the years since I've often wondered about it and who the old dude black might have been.

Apparently, if we had matching helmets, that would suggest we might have bought them at the same time. This would be unthinkably embarrassing.

Sion is really French speaking - the Canton though, is split. It's Vallais in French and Wallis when you go up the road towards Zermatt. Years ago we stopped for petrol somewhere between Martigny (at the foot of the valley) and Zermatt. The petrol station was German speaking, the café 50 metres before it was French.
