Andy, your tour videos are full of the innocence of a bygone era. As much as I enjoy them, the contrast to the reality of today’s world is almost too stark to bear.

Interesting comment, I don’t quite follow where you are coming from……. Don’t you find that your trips, adventures and exploration have that outlook of getting away and getting out of the rat race? I’m not saying you are wrong, just suggesting it’s maybe a mindset or approach that one can choose to have, or not. Sometimes travelling around the Alps kinda draws that sense of timelessness out of us, so happens automatically.

Very nice, Beautiful mountain ride again. Your hotel dining room reminds me of a work trip. 45+ years ago. As teenager. I stayed for week in a Grand Old Italian hotel with a huge almost empty dinning room. Unfortunately no bar. More waiters than customers. Always the same people at the same tables. An old man in black in corner, An Old Lady in black with a slightly younger man in Black and my mate and I in T shirts and jeans. lots of different people came and went to the old mans in blacks table. They never stayed long. Didn't seam to matter what time we came and went he was always there. By the 2nd day we would nod or wave politely. I never spoke to him, I don't know any Italian. I only ever heard the head waiter speak english. At the time I'd never hear of Palermo. In the years since I've often wondered about it and who the old dude black might have been.

Yes I do try and show maps - it's not easy to show one at the start of the video because at the time of filming I don't know where each video is going to start and stop - I don't film one video per day for example (it would work if I always started first thing in the day Noraly style) - point taken though.

Sion is really French speaking - the Canton though, is split. It's Vallais in French and Wallis when you go up the road towards Zermatt. Years ago we stopped for petrol somewhere between Martigny (at the foot of the valley) and Zermatt. The petrol station was German speaking, the café 50 metres before it was French. My cousins live a few miles away, and happily mix English, French and Schweiz deutsch in the same sentence.

As for bridges, there’s a fun one in Liechtenstein where you can stand with one foot in Switzerland, but it’s not a very high bridge. Hi Andy . I have the same bike as you and regularly do The Simplon Pass. The bridge you rode over is The Ganderwald . When you got the Goldwing , you tried an aftermarket Sat Nav. I’ve fitted a Garmin Zumo XT to mine . I love it but aesthetically it’s a bit of an add on . How are you getting on with the original Sat Nav on the bike ? I didn’t take to it at all , very slow in operation. Does it grow on you ? Thanks in advance, Neil .

Well as you may notice on this trip I'm using Apple Carplay so the nav you see is mostly Google maps and it's as fast as you like (I also sometimes use Apple maps or Waze) - I find Apple Carplay is the way to go, I quickly abandoned the add on GPS because it was no better than the built in Honda one.

in sion they actually speak french. only at the end of the vally they speak german. don't know if you can call that even german, because it is more or less the only swiss accent i do not really understand.

Switzerland is good for riding but boy is it expensive. Sweeping statement I have found the Swiss to be unhelpful.

Yes it is expensive but it sure is gorgeous! We found the people to be very pleasant….

Do you use Sport Mode on the passes?

Sometimes - mostly for overtakes and occasionally on the hairpins where it tends to hold lower gears for longer….

Ive always loved the look and feel of the modern gold wing but they are too heavy for my knees and ive always been afraid of owning one for that reason.

There is forward and revers gears, low centre of gravity and well balanced, not much ‘knee’ effort required really! 😀🏍

How’s the wing holding up Andy ? Mine went back in June . I’m back on a couple of kwaks these days . Last time I toured Europe was in 2019 ( apart from WW2 stuff in May this year). Always looks inviting when you see people touring 😁👍

This is great! Loved the ride and the commentary. Spectacular views. Please keep these videos coming, these are my favorite to watch! Glad Mrs Flyer got in a swim as well 1. Are you using the native Nav or nav from your phone? 2. Are you having the DCT do all the shifting or are you occasionally using the paddles on the steep stuff? Thanks again Andy, great video! John

1. I'm using Apple Carplay on the bike to use Google maps for Nav most of the time (I also use Waze and occassionally the Honda native satnav) 2. I don't think I've ever used the paddles! ....I just let the DCT do it's thing.
