I think it's safe to say that Black in EDH is probably one of my favorite colors. This week I take a look at a great mono black commander who loves graveyards: Chainer, Dementia Master. Reanimate at instant speed on a stick seems really powerful, but he can't do all of the hard work. Let's look at some cards that can help you get there!

I think Conjurer's Closet deserves a mention for Chainer. Aside from the normal double-dipping on ETB effects, because of the way Closet is worded you can blink a thing you stole with Chainer to keep it even if Chainer dies!

Soldevi Adnate is an amazing card in Chainer, but likely gets forgotten because it's very old. Whenever I get it going in my Chainer deck, I always have one or two people ask to see the card because they can't believe what it does. Great Chainer video though. He's my favorite Black Commander without a doubt, and extremely fun.

I play Chainer, Dementia Master at close to cEDH levels and a combo win that I've used before is Chainer, Dementia Master, K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, any free sacrifice outlet and Gray Merchant of Asphodel to infinitely drain the table

I'm using K'rrik with Chainer DM and Grey Merchant and it's been a game closer. Obviously requires a Sac outlet, and preferably a way to discard the 3 pieces out of your hand at instant speed (Discard outlet), but Grey Merchant can easily pull back the 9 life needed to recur the combo over and over with 3 players. Best part is if you get milled a bunch and those pieces show up in your GY off someone else's work. Even with only Chainer, Viscera Seer and Gary, that's 5 devotion, 3 players, 15 life per reanimate. That's fast, and with Chainer you can cheat out K'rrik early and barely even need a board state to do it. I always wait on K'rrik though and pull off that combo at someone else's turn so nobody really sees it coming. Also you can use Strands of Night but it won't go infinite (you run out of Swamps), but takes only 6 life per recurrence, so you can run it that many more times,

Okay, so I think it would be an interesting test of ability to create a non-budget Zurgo Bellstriker deck. Also while it won't gain you life, Marionette Master could be the third part of that last combo all to herself.

From my personal deck, I offer the includes of mindcrank and alter of the brood to push the table mill for your opponents and not yourself. Also mindslicer if your feeling confident and daring. Recur it every other time someone gets even a small grip of cards in hand and watch the table hate you haha.

One card I hear nobody ever talk about it Shade's Form. Check it out. It'll help re-trigger a lot of enter the battlefield effects, potentially steal an opponents creature, or give some insurance for some of your creatures.

So there was just a spoiler for Hour of Devastation for Razaketh the Foulblooded. I think it would be a good inclusion here, albeit an expensive one. Check it out. 3 black and 5 generic 8/8 Flying and Trample. Pay 2 life: sacrifice a creature to search your library for a card and put it into your hand. Shuffle your library.

My first commander was chainer. I work3d on the deck during shards of alara block. After some time becuase of the immense ramp tutor and card draw i changed the deck to a combo hand disruption. And the commander eventually changed to maga traitor to mortals since he was more efficient at winning, since he is just one more combo peace in a well oil'ed black machine. I took the deck apart becuase it was degenerate and peiple disliked playing against it.

Chainer looks like a really great commander, but since i'm already trying to build a Sacrifice deck (Mazirek) I think i'll let Sima Yi be my mono-black commander. also, did you ever made a Trostani deck? if not, could you put her on the list? :D

I feel it goes without saying, but I'd run as many mana doublers as humanly poasible in a Chainer deck. Things like Nirkana Revenant, Caged Sun, and Crypt Ghast really help you just disassemble graveyards in tandem with your commander and each curve well with him. Yea, the doublers are always great. I try to avoid repeating the same suggestions, otherwise the videos all sort of blend together lol! Please do resend it. I'm not sure if it's just mine, but messages on KZbin seem to get lost often.

I run Chainer as one of the 99 in my Sen Triplets deck alongside Ashiok. I use Debtors' Knell to bring back my own (although I'm considering Oversold Cemetery for that instead). Chainer and Ashiok are good hostage takers because as long as Chainer is in play, my opponents won't want to kill him once I steal their creatures unless they aren't running a reanimator strategy and just don't care.

I would put steel hellkite as one of the worst creatures in the game without haste. It doesn’t have a come into play or dies trigger and it doesn’t do anything unless it gets in against the opponent and even then it doesn’t do anything to multiple opponents. Play oblivion stone, parlous vault, ugin the spirt dragon or all is dust over this card gentlemen. Hell now you even got meator golem and that’s so much better. It’s a newer card but it’s uncommon and easy to pick up for near to nothing so it works as a budget option.

Phyrexian Altar, Demon of Dark Schemes, Marionette Master=win only 3 cards instead of 4 and the commander can help get it off even if the creatures are countered or killed in resoponse+your opponents boards can help get the required energy to start it.
