A rubber "thread puller" looks like an asset for this project. Just a circular disk of rubber, it works a charm.

Brenda, I've seen, Margaret Fabrizio, use her needle-nosed pliers to pull her thread & needles through the layers. I think I would have to do that as well b/c of my hand & finger issues. Hello Betsy! I'm delighted you like this video! This method of doing a Kawandi is so addicting and there is no waste because you just fold it over and hide it in the quilt. The flannel or any batting you choose to work with goes in after the first round of scrap fabric is added to the outer edge of the quilt. You can also sew your smallest pieces together to make little crumb blocks and add these in as a piece of fabric. I hope you have a beautiful week ahead! This is perfect for me, love to have something to hand sew while watching TV with the hubby. I am thinking that I could do a bunch of these this size then sew them together with a whip stitch or by using strips sewed to both sides to make a larger quilt. Endless possibilities. Love this. Made a small one by machine. Lives in the kitchen covering our Seal A Meal, so it’s not a total waste. Used a scrap of decor fabric for back - wrong! Too thick, didn’t press well but I learned a lot. Am planning a hand stitched one next. Thanks for your great vid!

Just learned about this technique. Seems like it would be easier to start with a piece of batting/flannel already to the size you need it then iron over the edges and then start sewing pieces. That way you wouldn't have to tuck it in after the first round. (Especially iron on batting) But I don't know, I've never done this before. But I'm going to try it. Hello Mary Anne! I'm delighted you like this video! This method of doing a Kawandi is so addicting and there is no waste because you just fold it over and hide it in the quilt. The flannel or any batting you choose to work with goes in after the first round of scrap fabric is added to the outer edge of the quilt. You can also sew your smallest pieces together to make little crumb blocks and add these in as a piece of fabric. I hope you have a beautiful week ahead!
