As a longsword myself I definitely prefer to go bottom line. It definitely seems like a weird pick considering the amount of charges You can get if you go top line but hear me out. + I am able to survive 3/4 of a trebuchet without losing a single model if I get my longsword heal off, And if I activate My first aid doctrine before the first trebuchet hit lands. + When they do charge If they're truly are just too many enemies, or if there are any survivors of the charge, they are able to survive long enough and have enough damage reduction with the doctrine set up I have to be able to form up without taking any losses in pretty much every infantry v infantry case I've used them in + Because they have three sources of healing I basically never need to go back to the supply point and can actually use them as a shield unit that can sustain for stupid amounts of time. + People forget about their built-in CC when in formation. If you have them in the formation they go into after they charge, they can actually knock around stuff like shieldmaidens without taking any real damage in return. + If you really wanted to min max just how little damage they can take You can split the veteran's line and with the right doctrines I'm pretty sure you can get somewhere in the leagues of 77% reduced damage when armor pierced. Anyway that's just my take on these Roman dudes. Definitely my favorite unit so far.

Cant wait to unlock these guys. Probablly best shield unit in the game. Active block and they make formation in enemy formation. Good to push trough spikes for example

The healing doctrine it's pointless as the heal while in formation, so it would go a lot better with 2.5 sec cc imunity doctrine
