the guide i was waiting for. much appreciated. I would like to add though, I take the 3% damage rune. this allows you to kill long bows with clash of shields. can pretty much take out a whole squad of them >:-]

I'd recommend those who go with the poison rune to practice activating it in AI Training Battles until it becomes second nature to do so since its not likely you'll remember half the time when in the thick of the fighting and being everyone's personal punching bag in a regular siege.

I always go with 50 armors and 22 str when I switch to longsword cause I never know about 850 defence break point. Thank you for an awesome vid, I will give toughness/str a try.

To be clear, there is still gain after 850, it just gives you less return for each point. :) Glad it was helpful!

I generally agree with your playstyle. "The strongest way to play the longsword", as you put it where you dump all into armour and toughness. Now, I have opted into putting all my points into armour, getting iron reaper level of armour and in order to compensate the hp part I actively try and get toughness in my gear, as well as higher level gear. That way I feel like I have almost a permanent Ironsides, and with the extra toughness and hp from my gear I get 35 000 + hp, even higher. Sure, I won't reach 42 000 hp but I with the higher armour I do still take the same amount of pusnishment. The difference is that with toughness you take more damage but have a bigger hp pool. With armour you take less damage and have a smaller hp pool. The other plus of the full armour build is you can swap out to poleaxe or maul mid fight( especially in TW when you need to do a task( destroy shieds, push and die on point) My final argument is the change they did to the heal where now it has a base heal and less percent hp heal. So they have nerfed the full toughness build ( probably for good reasons, but it is nonetheless nerfed). Despite all this I think full toughness is still a very good way to play it and I would discourage people from going damage or damage and armour. I had that "hybrid" phase and it is not worth the extra 20-30 archer kills or epasant kills or 1 hero kill you will get. Either go full toughness or full armour or a mix of the two with the very real option of covering the other stat with your gear( like I have full armour points but have tougness and extra hp on my gear). EDIT: For the runes I completely agree except I use the damage increase by 3 percent on the gloves( Ursa's fangs rune). If I die or do a sacrificial play it buffs all my frinedly units and heroes with a mini glaive buff of 10 percent. It is this second part of the rune that makes it very worth. You not only buff their defenses, give them healing and buff their pen but now you also act as a mini glaive when you die. Especially in TW when the LS contingent throws itself to clear and disrupt or hold the point you end up with a substantial buff for the people coming in second and third. The mauls, the glaives, the occassional musket or assassin main who is allowed to play that in TW because he is a beast. And since LS's die in intevals you get me dying, then another one dyin 6 seconds later, then another dying 5 seonds later and you end up with a 30- 40 seond buff to your ally damage if everyone is running the rune. The first part of the rune is ok, but it is that 10 percent buff for 10 seconds upon death that helps those flying reaper ults, those maul groundpounds and spins, those assassin slashes to do just enough.

The thing about the armor is it scales negatively after 850, where with toughness if you have any damage resistance at all, it scales infinitely with each 1% of DR. 10% DR makes 1,000HP into 1,100HP (loosely) - and a decent longsword has more than 10% DR. To be fair, armor does increase by a percentage with casting of Mercy but you can already use that on top of your mass HP pool with 850 armor, though it is not always in effect where your DR and toughness are. I do like the sacrifice for ally boost play, but I find that when I die there is seldom help around :/

@@KnightStalker Well to be Fair, the sheet from Apogee tells an entire different story, the higher my armor is, the bigger the benefits, he didn't wrote "after 850 armor becomes less useful" he wrote (quote): "HP is better than armor for light and medium, Armor is better for heavy armor who can get above 820 base armor and use some HP runes " So hp is better for classes that won't get above 820, and if u reach 820 with just ur armor, just dump every attribute point into armor

A lot of longswords dont use knightly vows or forget to use it. 30% extra pen is a huge buff in a death balls.

This hero fun to play, i purposely raise my Agility and all related to Blunt and Blunt PEN end up shield charging can do normal hit at 2.5k and critical hit at 4k and back hit by 5-6k, it was hilarious when blunting enemy making them scare of the dmg i can do with only a skill. especially when fighting cavalry, just blunt the heck of them when they charging and the rest is gravy.

Ive been playing full attack LS. You can put people on the ground all the time and 3 of your skills get you off the ground. Im still running my mostly strength glaive stats. You may be the lowest damage weapon but don't overlook how much you are doing that damage while they are on the ground.

i like the runes that gave you crit damage the more hits you make as well as turning self healing into poison damage on normal strikes. (shield block and poke with poison is fun)

@@KnightStalker i get it hes a damn good tank and putting all in what he's best at is the best strategy but don't sell his damage short. sometimes i switch it up and use the runes that let you stack crit stack on each normal attack and do a full combo and that one that makes your H heal into poison damage on normal strikes (Poison keeps players from healing with H and the Block Poke poison combo can creep up on your foes) along with the one that gives you damage on the flag points and you can really wreck people. no one is looking at long sword as a dps and he can catch them off guard some times. i do like your build though i normally go all in tank builds nothing like being a walking brick sh!t house lol

@@loremaster8475honestly I love playing a more damaging LS, the amount of times a lone hero’s rushed my unit alone cuz he’s not worried about my damage only to get demolished. Also the way I play I very often am able to catch damaged heros trying to run and finish them off

yeah that block poke and the charge stab with some dps/crit/poison can really mess up some days on those confident wonderers. >:)

I would say this build also works for TW also. Being able to stay on point for long periods and stopping cav charges is very helpful. Not to mention healing and dmg reduction

Bout armour u right aditional defs always OP but overall as a LS u dont get a lot arrows on face if u re enought far away archers just miss u so for my preferences its always 2% Defs and 50% less fall dmg > 7% range def

noice! great stuff as always. Remember the good old days when we had the cc imunity during clash of shields? aaah those were the glory days :D Hope that rune comes back around sometime. Imaganine that plus the now reworked mercy of heaven, ultimate chad sword :D I totaly agree with shield bash being hard to land and it no longer has "cleanse" for the price of the added stun on the second hit (if memeory serves me right it was just slow before), but for those who like to mix in some dmg in their built it is good openener to slow them and prevent them from running away while you sally their ass, if you want to run sally forth that is. Sally deals somewhat decent dmg even with full meat tank build. Would you go for sally if they add a cc rune for it?

Ah the glory days of Clash of Shields! I yearn for the return of such extravagances such as a single ability that gave CC resistance.... even just one.... And yes, a slap with a shield bash with a sally forth follow up hurts :) but its still less than half the hurt of a single maul skill lol

Crusade counter is terrible damage wise, however it is actually really useful in escaping. If a hero stunned or knocked you back, you can just use this skill's shield bash to stun them and run, avoiding them comboing you to dearh.

Hp DOES have DR in a way as 1 HP of 100 is 1% increase while 1 HP of 1000 is 0.1% increase but I guess if the damage is flat that doesnt matter much?

Its the reverse really, something I didnt touch on is that every 1% of DR means that HP scales better. 10% DR on 1000HP means 1,100HP in practice
