Great video! The only troops I'm missing are fountain court guard (they are essentially cheap Hearthguard that you can spam as much as you want thanks to the cheap Gondor heroes) and Black Numenorians (they are dominating the German tournament scene and are very popular in the UK as they have above average stats with F4, D6 and C4/5/6 and cause terror for just 9 pts which makes them one of the cheapest minis in this video)

I know I'm late to the party, but Goblin. Prowlers. F3 base (F4 with the Moria Army Bonus, F5 with Groblog's Mithril Crown), Throwing Daggers, 2-handed Axe (so always +1 to wound), Backstabbers (an additional +1 to wound when an opponent is trapped) and Cave Dweller... for ***7 points***. It would be hard to find better value in the entire game.

Yeah 2 years late but I'm getting back into the game casually and I'm sticking with the old blue One Ring book for and the faction books from that time for my rules. Just not interested in all the cruft that got added with the Hobbit release. I believe MESBG is a great tournament game, but it's got too many fiddly bits for my liking.

I would add Mirkwood cavalry in this. Around Thranduil they are absolutely crazy. Do the maths. FV of 5, fearless with a crazy +1 to wound and a banner re roll, def 6... all that for 17 pts. Those guy’s wins games.

I thought I was going crazy that no one spotted these guys, they’re never played but for 17 points around thranduil you basically have a F5 3 attack on the charge fearless elven blade with +1 to wound

I’m surprised that the Knights of Rivendell aren’t higher?? Especially over Rohan Royal Guard and Gundabad Berserkers. Those Knights shred anyone, and with Fight 6, as warriors?

The gundabad berserkers were an honourable mention so didn't make it into the top 10 they just missed out. The Rivendell knights are only fight 5. I agree that they are amazing as they made number 5 on the list but they are a heap of points which is what probably kept them down

I love me some Grim hammmers upgraded to Guardians of The King. D7 with a 4 strength attack that can 2 hand? These guys can crack through some of the highest saves in the game. 12 points is quite expensive, but they can make their points back with those throwing axe kills.

I'm not a tournement player but this list for me feels wrong in two aspects. Some units on the list i would not consider troops. MESBG does not make the distinction between troops and elite or "special forces", but i personaly still make it. Elven Sentinel will never be the core frontline troop of a decent size army, same as Mirkwood Spiders or Bat Swarms. This also plays into the secound aspect - Game Size. I have not seen a Tournement with more then 750-800 Points played most of the time even less. The games we play in our group are mostly 1200 Points + in 1 vs 2 or 2 vs 2. With Frontlines 10-15 troops wide a sentinel does to little to late. A spider would not get the chance to attack a hero alone most of the time. Halftrolls are prime targets for 20+ arrows per round. I would like to see a remake of this list with a distinction on main frontline troops (or backline archers) and more specialized troops.

I think you are missing a couple of units. One example I the Easterling Black Dragon Kataphrakt. I mean, 16 points for Fight 4, Defense 6, Courage 4, on a Armoured Horse with both Phalanz and shieldwall? Defense 7 Guy and defense 6 horse. And they can take war drums as well, giving you a drummer for only 29 points, much cheaper than a hero drummer.

Interesting I wouldn't of even considered a Easterling Kataphrakt. I totally agree that with a drum they are really really cheap and should always be taken with Easterlings But being under costed isn't enough to get on this list. This is the way I think of it hopefully it makes sense. A regular drummer is 30 points on foot so theoretically should be 40 if they had a horse. That only puts the Easterling drum 10 points under costed and at 750 points that's only a 1.3% point efficiency bonus

I play easterlings and honestly the drum is super helpful, especially when playing hammer and anvil tactics with kataphrakts and a pike phalanx(probably best Easterling tactic) because you can flank so easily and quickly move into place, the cheap price is a a good bonus too because you can afford to turn five more models into black dragons

Perhaps it's the anti-synergy with the Mordor army bonus? Black Guard give you Fight, Strength, Defense and (Evil) Courage all in one package, but Mordor doesn't mind the quantity-over-quality approach.

Anyone can call the winner of an event the world champion, we don't have someone like the FIFA that decides which tournament is the world cup. The masters at least have a qualification phase and are therefore the most competive singles event. I don't want to take anything away from Damian, he's a great player and person and winning Ardacon is amazing. But there is no reason why Ardacon should be the world championship apart from it's size of which one half of it comes from UK players. In sports a world cup is the tournament with the strongest players and not the biggest event or would you say that the winner of the biggest marathon is the world champion just because he won the biggest race?

interesting that you have suggested them. They are one of the most used troops but no one seems to rate them particularly highly. I think a big reason for that is because you often want your shield wall to access fight 4 which means that troops without the shieldwall rule are often found in their ranks meaning that they loose their D7. I actually have a bunch of them on my painting desk and will be running a decent horde of them and will be making sure they always get their D7

@@ConquestCreations yeah I see what you mean with the fight 4 you do tend to be in trouble coming up against urk hai, elves etc but If you run a MT list with all of the minor heros with boromir you can really hold the enemy up while holding onto objectives with warriors of minas tirith. I subscribed and was loving this new found channel but then i saw what I think was a flying Balrog. I hope I got a bad angle and it was balancing on a rock or something. But if someone made a flying Balrog it makes me want to unsubscribe. Its almost as bad as Azog being alive during the events of the Hobbit.

I think it's great to be able to disagree with the list and have a discussion about it. I am in all the Facebook groups for Middle Earth. The players that made this list are some of the best in the world so they are subject matter experts and have used these models to win Australias biggest tournaments. Which models on the list aren't good? And what models should take their place? I'm interested in what you think

@@aereoka Thanks for the reply. The point cost of the model is one of its most important stats and was absolutely thought about a lot! What are those 10 models that you think are better and cheaper than the models on the list? I stand by the list. I trust the judgement of the players that I asked. I trust them because I have seen them use these models to win and podium tournaments. Also many other very highly regarded players like one of the champions of the GBHL said that they thought that the list was great. Just because I believe that the list is accurate doesn't mean that I am not open to hearing what other people think. In the video I talk about how I want to start a discussion. I want to get better at the game and if you have some ideas and models that you have used to win multiple tournaments I would love to hear about it so I can look at using those models to!
