This is literally mind expanding. To find a channel talking about films (I’m a Brit, I rarely say movies) and discover esoteric reference points I’ve studied for a lifetime is joyous. The brain, heart, and soul behind this content needs recognition NOW. The skill, art, and craft of this creator is second to none. I want more and more people need to hear this. I love your previous videos; your work becomes bigger and brighter with every release.

Your analysis brought many new ideas of the film and story to surface for me. The main one I connected with is the tension between technology and spirituality when considering human advancement and consciousness. The tech/spirit dilemma I sensed right off back in 1969 when I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. I was 13 years old and had to explain it to my father who was certain the film was a Sci-Fi space theme. He didn't like the beginning or ending at all. The bolder message was a natural and intuitive conclusion for an open mind. Your coverage of the topic of consciousness in connection to the film storyline was illuminating and impressive. I personally believe a contrived transition into artificial consciousness is a spiritual dead end, and eternity in a technological trap is the closest thing to damnation.

Although i tried to look at both sides somewhat fairly, I'm pretty much in agreement with you. Thank you for your insight.

Great video, well done. I think in this film, Kubrick is saying that for us to evolve into higher beings, we need to leave our relationship with our tools behind; if we don't, they'll take over us and imprison us in our current state.

Never seen anyone superimpose the Tree of Life on that image, really good catch regarding the invisible sephiroth lining up with the monolith on that. Subscribed and looking forward to what you got coming next

Wonderfully done. Just like the book, and the movie, questions arise. Great work.

Fascinating essay of exactly the type that 2001 was intended to provoke. And yes, I think it’s entirely out of our hands at this point. Too many of us with too many conflicting agendas and only a few having any real say. We’re all on a runaway train; best strap in.

Once one willingly can make one's visual field conscious of itself, one knows what literal expansion of consciousness is...

Wow, that was great! Loved the stuff about consciousness. It seems self evident to me that conscious experience, what the philosophers call "phenomenal consciousness", can not and will not ever be explainable in purely physical terms--assuming the standard conception of "physical", rather than some kind of panpsychist conception of it. Personally, I lean towards some form of idealism. It sounds crazy and "woo woo" at first, but the more I think about it, the more sensible it sounds to me.

Thanks. I lean towards "woo woo" myself although I try not to be dogmatic about it.

Nice video! I wrote a piece some years ago “On Viewing 2001: The First Transhumanist Film,” my favorite film. I can't post links here so you might Google it. I've been involved in futurist, transhumanist thought and am on the board of Humanity Plus! Also, see Clarke's "The City and the Stars," the first transhumanist novel except, perhaps, for Olaf Stapledon.

This film isn't great because it's transhuman. It's great because it's human.

"Who would believe that the creator went in unto His own creation, man, and knew it to be Himself and that this entrance into the skull of man - this union of God and man - resulted in the birth of a Son out of the skull of man; which birth gave to that man eternal life and union with his creator forever" -Neville Goddard, 1961 The Hotel Room is the Skull of Man. 💀
