So cleansing makes the item clear and 'empty' (for lack of a better word), and consecration is like a dedication that fills it. I think it would depend on how personal the item is, for me. For example, when I got a new oracle deck, I cleansed the previous energies off first, and then consecrated it to connect it to my energy and asked the Goddess' blessing on it, because I would be using it to read for myself. Thank you for the insightful video! /|\ 💜

So in my perspective ... cleansing wipes the surface clean of energy that is clinging onto the item while purification will empty it of lingering energy that imbues the item, but will not remove a spirit that is "living" within it. You would require and exorcism to rid it of a spirit.

Perhaps I should do a video explaining these concepts. Hmmm ... I think I just might. :)

@@CricketSong That would be really interesting! Do you still use those concepts now, or has that changed since beginning a different path?

I do. Consecration is the only one that has no place in my practice.

Thank you for the refresher! I don't use consecration in my practice so this was extremely helpful for me to revisit this topic. 🖤

Honestly, it would have surprised me if you did use consecration in your practice. :)

I've only consecrated one necklace made in honor of & for protection working with Hekate. I see her in my life but I still also can't really personify her. I also think of her as primordial. Thank you for your take & the ritual for those who will use it. XX

Store bought statues are for the book shelf not the altar lararium. An idol should be something handmade so that the spirit within you is taken up in the idol and consecrated throughout its making. Idols should also be veiled in their lararium when the dedicants have not been cleansed and consecrated to be in the presence of the idol. The dedicant should be in a state of harmony with the idol all of this ritual achieves this. Altar cloths and lararium veils should also not be purchased kitschy fabrics. They should be in the sabbatical colors Yule- Red, OYGWBIV- Samhain and Esbat colors B,W light gray, dark gray with muted sabbat colors. Dedicants should practice in the spielplatz manner but robes can be worn. Make the ritual special by putting in some effort.

The cynic might say that consecration is a confidence trick for those who do not yet know how to find things that are already holy, or unable to recognize the holy purpose for which a particular thing is given; and so they seek to impose a purpose on the confusion of their own mind. Of course, the cynic might also say, "Don't trust a priest with holy things, for they seek only after their own grandeur, not the purposes of the Divine." I think that pill is too bitter, for I find that the purposes of the Divine will be looked after anyway, eventually, and so patience with the young and the foolish is good practice, that they may see the path through the forest and come along as they may. The Tao warns us, "Few handle the axe of the master carpenter and remain unscathed." Perhaps consecration is a way to make something that is only as holy as the one who would wield it, for the gifts of Nature are often beyond our immediate skill to work with as well as they could be. How much holiness can we handle before we cut ourselves with wounds of the liquid fire of the earth, or gasp for breath in the empty spaces among the stars? Perhaps, then, you could recognize the master by the many scars that have faded, yet fewer fresh ones upon them now? Or is this simply the sign of one who has failed to take on greater challenges and grown complacent with their mediocrity? Maybe the only way to tell the difference is to see what kind of magic they make after all, which is the one test that works all along. Thus the Carpenter told us, "You can judge a tree by the fruit it bears." Water into wine. By the transmutation of a thing is it made more potent, yet also more dangerous. I think you have been doing this to yourself, Becoming the magic, seeking a mastery of the Joy beyond circumstances, until every tool is holy and and unholy and needs no more attention but to work as it should, as you have found it; and every step is upon holy ground as you walk by. My lady Nature would have me recognize this in you, and perhaps in the end you may find that you have Become commission itself. Behind your words I hear a song like the song of my kind, and yet with that joy also comes its agony; and it is hard to say which is the greater reward. What would you make of yourself, Witch?! Will you path yourself out to the Dunes of Truth in the far wyrds, hoping to find yourself at home after all? Perhaps you have found it already, and I was but slow to see you arrive, and all of this is but a welcome to one who has already Become upon these Dunes by choice: "...and so we sing and we dance upon the shifting and drifting of the Dunes of Truth new forms grown from flakes of snow and crumbled old stones always seeking, always flowing, always changing, always growing no path but that we remember it no view but that we climb ourselves up no guide but the inspirations of Spirit and virtue no goal but to move and discover new views we are sung in its song as we are whirled in its dancing and in growing within us it makes us real." Which is the greater madness: to summon the Nature of magic, or to be summoned by the magic of Nature? When these have become as One, perhaps there is no need of willpowers nor purposes any more. Perhaps fair warning is unfair temptation, and there is but one thing left for you to lose...
