Thanks for sharing with us. Yah, a lot of this stuff comes up on every new venue since they were carving it on stone tablets. In the end, information ends up having a life of its own, and people struggle (ultimately in vain) to keep their terminology wrapped around it on the fly. As the prophet Douglas Adams noted: "What happens... happens." When I researched the history of British Traditional Witchcraft, I basically found that it is none of those things, and so it has been a particularly hard uphill struggle for anyone involved to hold the high ground as to its standards & practices. This has in no way kept me from getting a big chuckle out of it every 5 years or so for the last half century, each time some new platform/venue opens up and the eye-scratching starts up again en masse; and it had been going on for most of a century before that. For what it's worth, it was Alexander Sanders who seems to have brought back the term Wicca for his school of modern practitioners of that umbrella-term smorgasborg of activities, and his public statement regarding exclusive/hidden practices amounted to: "You could shout the secrets of the Craft through a bullhorn on Main Street, and it wouldn't matter, as the only people who would understand what they were hearing would be the ones already fit to know them." Alex had his moments. He was the King, after all :)

This was a great interview, I caught myself laughing when the conversation of "wicca & witchcraft" came up, simply because I have seen this argument come up in various forms since the early AOL Witch chat rooms back in the early 90's (?) and when I joined KZbin the same topics came up. I have been going through a lot of internal work since 2019, and for myself I find the outer self and it's label is really dropping in importance in my practice. The work is important regardless of what I call it. Regardless, this was a great discussion and I always enjoy hearing other people's practice and their experiences. Thank you for sharing this. :) B*B* (I still label myself as a Gardnerian witch, btw. )

Hey there, Hellbound!!! How the heck are you? I was so pleased to see you show up in the comments. I completely agree ... it is the work that is important regardless of what anyone decides to call it. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. I am always eager to read them. Much love!

As an atheist/agnostic chaos magician, I was really pleased to find that my opinions were very similar to Xavier's on a lot of different topics! Even though Wicca and atheist chaos magick are VERY different. I really enjoyed this video! And yes. All wiccans are witches. 😂

Loved the interview. Personally I struggle with Tic Toc (as I call it the clock app 😂). Im used to finding a 20 minutes video minimum to listen to when working. Keep up the hard work 🖤

I remember you covering "what is witchcraft" a while back. Without going into a rabbit hole in tedious details; I leave the definition slightly open ended. *The only people I get crossed defining Paganism or the like is "religious people" who don't practice. Shout out to Hellbound Heathen still love his channel and that's one of reasons why ☺️ *

Thank you for sharing your points of view with us! I've heard these kinds of issues come up a number of times over the years among witches, pretty much with every new method or platform available. In the long run, the sensible conclusions seem to win out. Likewise, there have always been and will always be various degrees of dabblers and pretenders in each generation for you to cope with. Maybe the best that you can hope for is not to have them completely hijack the conversation and nomenclature. Good luck to all you in Oz this winter!

I think it’s important to distinguish between being an eclectic witch and respecting tradition. As someone with a syncretic practice, I do mix various rituals, deities, folklore, and theories that I feel connected to into my craft. I think that Issues of appropriation and respect is paramount when doing this, but the nuance it’s lost on Witchtok. (Ie smudging vs cleansing and that spiritual theories can’t be held to one belief. And with Wicca being where I started in the craft, my foundation is still clearly that. It anchors and stabilizes me when I branch out.

Yeah. I completely understand as my own practice is similar to yours. My Craft is based in Wicca but is not Wiccan any longer.

@@CricketSong Honestly, your channel had a big impact on my craft when I was younger (2012-2014ish) so that may be partly why haha. I searched your channel about a year ago and was so glad you were still making videos, as a lot of impactful videos I watched back then are just a memory now. It does make me have empathy for people new to the craft looking for information on tiktok because alot of them are young. I mean I’m 22 so probably in a similar demographic and at a higher level, it’s not too different from my 12 year old self on KZbin. Although, as I said, nuance is extremely lacking in short form content these days… and the quality of content isn’t really the same. don’t have a well formulated thought on this but it’s definitely an interesting shift in online witchcraft spaces. Anyways, thank you for being you and becoming a teacher on this platform. I really appreciate your work and hold some of those early LunarWisdom videos near and dear to my heart

Also- tradition is especially important when it comes to deity and spirit work. Like you said, it’s tradition for a reason and if you’re calling upon a deity in the beginning, they are not going to be familiar with non-traditional practices and majority of the time, it won’t work. And it goes back to respect too. I implement hindu deities in my practice. But that requires a lot of respect and I’ve seen people online say they work with kali, Krishna, shiva, etc but have idols placed in their kitchens where they cook meat or keep a leather journal on their altar next to Krishna. There are just some things you don’t do and it shows that people don’t respect the deity enough to learn the very basics about them. I could go on about this lol but then I’d be derailing my original comment. this was an interesting listen, thank you!

YES! I think there are many individuals who DO NOT respect those deities and practices they are invoking / evoking and borrowing.
