Thank you to everyone who suggested the cellphone likely refers to the call Francesca makes. And thanks for all the lovely comments and sharing your own clever insights. This is such a rich show, I know I missed a few things and didn't even get to say everything I MEANT to say. Lalo's broken ribs are definitely going to be a factor -- he is wounded. This may actually encourage him to reach out to Kim/Jimmy for help when he gets back to ABQ. I still think this is a possibility and Kim's fate worse than prison may just be coming face to face with Lalo.

@@ronchase1673 I think that the vacuum cleaner guy will play in here because they shot a close up of the card that Kim picked up. Maybe whatever trouble Kim gets iinto gets her in trouble with the cartel. Maybe her and Jimmy help Lalo take the vacuum deal? Lalo is a dead man walking right now. We know he doesn’t expose Gus, because the super lab is finished in BB. Gus will have him killed if he pops his head out anywhere. Gus may try to frame him for something against the cartel? Maybe he and Kim both have to take the deal, but for different reasons. If Gus and the cartel were to find out that she helped Lalo, they would send soemone to kill her. Most likely it would be Mike, who I think would warn Kim. He seemed to like her because she was made of sterner stuff. Mike hates Jimmy and would kill him if he was instructed to, so somehow Jimmy won’t be party to whatever Kim is in trouble for. The vaccum cleaner package is almost as good as being dead, since he destroys your identity and gives you a new one. That could expain why she is not anywhere in BB? Somehow, Mike's story has ot crossover with Kim and Jimmy? I know he saved Jimmy in the desert, but there has to be more crossover than that? Right?

I love your analysis. I enjoy thinking more critically, even about fictional characters on tv, and I appreciate that your content is much more than a recap. I don’t need someone to parrot back what I already watched. You thoughtfully cultivate your analysis, identifying various themes and connections that I may not have considered. Your content is the perfect supplement to the show for me, not just a regurgitation, which is awesome. It’s clear that you have given much consideration to these characters and their motivations, their psyche, etc. I’m not trying to bash or minimize the hard work of other creators that do recaps or “breakdowns”, but your content truly elevates my viewing experience and I really enjoy that. I’m not sure which other shows you like, but I hope you will continue making similar content once the series concludes. Excellent work!! 👏

The comparision between Athena and Kim makes me think of the Athena and Arachne myth where Arachne an extremely talented weaver from a humble background allows her hubris to lead to her downfall when she mocks Athena for being inferior. Gotta love the obvious "bad choice road" or character at a crossroads cliche but It works and shows you what Kim actually wants instead of helping people like she tells herself. Courtney, another great analysis! Fantastic catch about Kim's apple shirt - too good. The foreshadowing you mentioned about the situation turning bad with the use of the drain or the X is used in other visuals as well. When a new scene begins, I think it acts as a commentary sometimes for the previous scene. When Kim tells Jimmy about the foundation and Jimmy says this is fantastic, the very next scene is an axe chopping the log in half. The foundation work will be axed. When Francesca makes the phone call to HHM, the toilet is in the dumpster behind them, not a good sign. When they go back inside, the client is urinating. It's like he's urinating all over this con they want to hatch. This might be off base, but I connect the U-turn to the scene in episode 2 when Nacho's girlfriend knocks down the dominos she set up. I took that scene to be a self reference about the series and season 6. The writers have all the pieces lined up to be knocked down and fall in place for this season. The dominos were in the shape of a U. I wonder if that's the U-turn Kim makes. I would like to respond to your comments about Kim & Jimmy but it would be too long. Thanks again for all your hard work. You always help me see the show in new ways. I can't wait for your next breakdown.

One of the things the show has done well is slowly calm us down about Kim's future. Her not being in BB had everyone worried, especially since not only was she not in the game, but she was one of those characters that truly wanted to just do good with their life. However more and more she's making choices that value the con more than her supposed dream of helping people. Even though it's a little on the nose, they literally show her turning on the bad choice road when she just had to keep driving to get everything she ever wanted. Any other show would've retained the shock factor and maybe killed her hurting everyone or just devised a happy ending. This show takes great pain in showing that don't worry, she's making the choices that lead there. At this point, if Kim ends up in prison for life or even dies, people will be sad but it will be tempered by us knowing that her demons got the best of her. It was nobody's fault but her own.
@courtneysreviews438
@courtneysreviews438 2 жыл бұрын
I still worry lol. Her sins pale in comparison to those of others, but I follow your reasoning. It is appropriate that Kim's future be a consequence of her own decisions. I appreciate the writers giving her autonomy and agency as opposed to writing her off as another damsel in distress.
@TanmaiKhanna
@TanmaiKhanna 2 жыл бұрын
@@courtneysreviews438 Certainly, her sins are nothing compared to the ones around her, but the great thing, as Michael Mando put it, these are all dead men (except Saul, ig). We already know each of them have reached the end of their roads based on whatever choices they've made. It would still be harsh to punish her disproportionately, but there's a lot a person can control, and Kim's just more and more reckless about her choices. Now, granted we still might find out a much deeper intention behind this scam - maybe it's much more than just a con. Either way, yeah, I'm glad she's making her choices, so once it all comes crumbling down, there'll be some peace in knowing that it's a just world, and Kim was no innocent bystander.

Kim 's character in BCS is supposedly ~ 35-40 years old. One would hope for maturity; more reflection on the cost /benefit, more reflection on the worst case . more realism on the impersonal nature of big law firms... Jimmy and Kim never discuss children. I suppose that they are not mature enough to raise a family
@judywright4241
@judywright4241 2 жыл бұрын
I always felt whatever happens to Kim, it kills the last vestige of ‘Jimmy McGill’ leaving completely the smarmy Saul Goodman. So it would have to be something that truly breaks him. Prison just doesn’t seem to be enough, UNLESS she has been doing more of a long con, using Jimmy’s love for her not to suspect a thing. The ultimate payoff for HIM using HER love for him to fool her in front of all her colleagues and bosses.
@TanmaiKhanna
@TanmaiKhanna 2 жыл бұрын
One more thing I would add, it's fairly obvious but since you talked about the earrings that she wears, it's a recurrent theme with Saul as well - wearing a piece of jewellery that reminds them constantly of who they really are. With Saul it's Marco's ring, and with Kim it now seems to be these earrings. No matter how much of a straight shooter either of these become, they'll never stop wearing these trinkets that might just be a window into their soul.

Thank you for your observations, insights and projections. I really enjoy your videos, especially as they come from a female point of view. Kim is the most interesting character in this final installment of BCS. The writers seem to have advanced from the handling of female characters in BB. They tried to make Skyler and her sister deeper and rounder, for instance in season 4. But the sisters never developed the brilliance and depth of Kim Wexler. Again you have discovered some optical symbolism like the crossed window, that escaped my observance. BTW the clam shell phone on the con board showed Francescas call to HHM inho. I can't comprehend all the criticism about the eason being slow and motionless. I just enjoy the ride tremendously, seing all the figures big and small, adding context and backstory to the narrative. It's so rewarding to see the smaller characters for a last time, for instance the Kettlemans, Francesca, ADA Bill, the film crew or Suzanne Ericsen. I have worked 18 years in TV production and I'm also a writer, so I understand the quality of all the professionals involved in this series. Have a nice day. Marcus from Berlin. Great breakdown. Thanks. Your insights on the visual landscape are much appreciated and I can more enjoy a 2nd viewing as a result. I can only contribute a couple of observations. Kim is addicted to the high of the con and we've seen her taking greater risks along the way to achieve an even greater buzz from pulling it off. Sooner or later she would inevitably get burned. Everything points to Kim backing away but then she would have to forfeit that high after so much time setting it up. This plan has always been too elaborate and it's almost fallen apart on multiple occasions. Moved cones, falling signs, jogging valets, Jimmy stripping naked to hide in plain sight in the men's locker room. Yet Kim wants to keep soldiering on. I think for her it's become more about the rush she gets than the money. Bad choice road that had multiple warning signs that the road you are traveling drives off a cliff. Can't stop. Too much invested. The fallacy of sunken costs rears its ugly head. Instead they have a picnic at the site where blood will be spilled the next day. Has it really now occurred to either of them that the blood might be theirs?

Or, what if Kim becomes so angry at Jimmy for suggesting they pull the plug on D-Day - He's taking over MY SCHEME - that she blows it up? Or, what if Jimmy saves the play and she comes to resent that? I keep thinking of when she was stuck in doc review and told him "You don't save me. I save me." Perhaps Young KImmy becomes so angry at her mother because her mother took over and saved her? (I've got the feeling Teenage Kim never wore those earrings and that drove her mother crazy!) The further they've gone into the scheme, the more more hard Kim and Jimmy have become. Saul is becoming more fully formed. Who does Kim become?

Another connection to the stars could be that Werner wanted to look at the stars while Mike killed him. "Delivery how?" I think has been answered in the trailer for episode 7 - Jimmy can be seen putting the drug onto the photos of the fake Judge and him in a darkroom - If the PI is a plant by Jimmy and Kim then he will give these photos to Howard, who will get drugged from holding the pictures. Really nicely spotted with the apple shirt young Kim is wearing!

The liquor store clerk's remark about the Zafiro Añejo stopper -it's sharp, so be careful- brings me back to the cold open for S6E03 where we see the desert vegetation. At 01:26 , the tufts of growth (yucca or some sort of wild grass?) remind me of the Zafiro stopper, replete with sharp edges and a brownish-coppery color. At 01:31 we see a twisted wood branch that bears a striking resemblance to a snake ready to attack in it's left-facing direction. Symbolic foreshadowing or ... ?

The stopper is modeled after an agave plant (from which tequila is distilled). I'll have to go back to see 6x03 to see if it is an Agave, but they do grow in the desert so it is possible. The gnarled wood, to me, looked almost like skeletal remains.

This show can be difficult to follow as it requires a great deal of attention to detail and cognitive legwork as things are rarely spelled out. I guess I'm assuming an audience here who want to look at the minutiae and who derive as much pleasure as I do in trying to puzzle it all out.

Hey Courtney, have been enjoying all your reviews and analyses of this season a great deal. I came to your channel only last week (think the algorithm suggested you as I've been watching several other BB/BCS review channels) but have gone back through and watched all the ones pertaining to the earlier episodes. One thing that struck me as a potential foreshadowing was during the dialogue between Jimmy and Kim in the Goodman law office when she explains to him that her meeting with Cliff happens on D-Day. Jimmy uses that event as a metaphor, saying that Eisenhower wasn't on Omaha Beach on the day itself. So, if he sees Kim as Eisenhower, maybe the writers are subtly telling us she doesn't end up in Omaha in the post-BB Gene timeline and that theirs isn't a happy ending after all.
@RoarOfWolverine
@RoarOfWolverine 2 жыл бұрын
Kim was the one that picked up the vacuum cleaner guy’s card. Perhaps that was foreshadowing that she will get in so much trouble that she is the first to have to take “the deal” and have her identity changed and disappear. That may be why we don’t see her in BB? It may be that they do get the Sandpiper deal and the 2 million dollars, but have to spend a lot of it to make kim dissapear. Taking the vacuum deal is almost like being dead. No one can contact you for fear of giving up your new identity. Perhaps Kim gets in trouble with the cartel helping Lalo somehow and must disappear so Gus and the cartel believes she's dead? If anyone could fake their own death, it would be Jimmy and Kim. They don’t have some stooge already in place, who has Kim’s same dental work. I don’t know how they will fake her death, but it’s not beyond their scope, especially if Mike helps out. That could be how Mike’s story crosses with Saul’s. Why else has Mike been in this story so far, nothing he has done, except save Jimmy in the desert, has happened. I can’t believe the shooting in the desert and walk back to civilization is the only cross over for Ermantraut and Goodman (McGill) If Mike were to tell Gus that he killed Kim, Gus would most likely believe him without having to see the body? I don’t think that Gus knows that Mike knows Kim? I can’t see Mike killing Kim. Jimmy, without a hesitation, but we could tell he knew more about Kim when he said, “you’re made of sterner stuff”, which also insinuated he had admiration for her. He has nothing but contempt for Jimmy. IDK, but I can’t wait to find out when the second half airs. There will be thousands of theories flying around the internet, which is what Sullivan wants. They would have to have a story of why the entire body is gone? Even fire doesn’t get rid of teeth. Kim might have to sacrifice some of those teeth from her beauitiful smile or they could say she was dissolved in flouric acid, which was used extensively in BB? in reality, flouric acid cannot completely dissolve human bone and teeth, but in the BB universe it does, so they can always go with that, since it’s been established. IDK what reason they could give as to why she had to be dissolved, but Jimmy is good at making up stories and Kim is even better. They could go with drowning way out in the ocean, but New Mexico is far from any ocean. I hate to have to wait a year or more for the rest. I hope they don’t make us wait another year.

I wouldn't not have caught the connections between the earing name and song faintly heard in the beginning being a kind of commentary on Kim's bad upbringing and a mirror to Kaylee's stargazing with Mike! Really insightful stuff and I admire your style of presentation. This is the kind of deep-dive stuff you might see in a "Things you didn't know about ___" video years after a show has ended. I'm surprised you don't have a bigger following! This is right up there with VIvid Kiwi, Pete Peppers and One Take with the level of dedication in their uploads! I don't even think I can say I've seen many/most people do anything beyond a surface level analysis of these episodes, so it's really cool to see someone go all out and see what more there is to be said! Binging your other videos immediately after this, and subscribing of course. It also took me too long to realize the bits showing yourself were green screened in front of the apartment complex from the show, hilarious. I also don't know if it was intentional or not, but the pause cut after "you've heard of dream boards, now get ready for SCHEME boards" just seemed like you were waiting for the audience to groan or laugh. Great video as always Courtney! Are you considering let us in on your Lalo sigh? I so could relate to that! I was very impressed you caught the song reference in Kim's mother car (anything about the "Affair of The Heart" from the cello pick-up scene?) and great job spotting the (now) obvious hint at 4x10 when she halts when Jimmy is done with his hearing... I was wondering about that apple t-shirt...thank you so much! A few things I noticed while watching your breakdown: - the "you lie, I lie" you reference from 5x06 is also heavily conveyed from last week's alarm clock, if you think about it... - unless I'm mistaken she points her earrings in opposite directions, one down to the left, the other down to the right, and I've always thought of them as either pyramids or arrows (to be honest, I'd need to go see if she stills wears them divergent or not...) It's interesting you would connect them with the stopper, both token from her criminal past (unlike the next Zafiro Bottle Jimmy bought at the end of season 3) - from your showing the "the lunch is on D-Day" extract, I've noticed the "Godfathery" light cinematography, how Kim is completely shrouded in darkness, where Jimmy isn't : although it's become quite obvious she shifted to darker colours, Jimmy's pastel blueish grey (and Francesca's redecorating of his office) is quite interesting I believe, especially if you see it as a call back to Kim's colours in earlier season...anyway, I love how he's still in some faint, but she's a gone girl... - am I the only one who first believed Almeda was Nacho's father's address? Also, I highly expected Kim to be on a synched con with her mom on the jewellery shoplifting...but of course she wasn't, this isn't slipping Jimmy. - maybe you're planning on talking about it in some later videos...but the car scene reminded so much of her 3x09 car crush, especially juxtaposed to the judge's cast. Fun fact: he's wearing it on his left arm and she had her right arm broken...of course they were never going to show her break the other arm, but if you consider she turned left for her u-turn...I guess that says it all. - as a female viewer too, I have to say I felt an extra relatability feeling to her turning around at the end and to be honest, I don't think I will recover from this visual...this shot is so simple and the situation is so realistic, something much more down to earth and seemingly insignificant compared to Walt's grand downfall...and for the first time she's not backing down, taking full agency on the scam...this U-turn speaks volumes, so much different than her crash when she was stopped on her way.. Can't wait to watch your next videos! Thanks again and congrats on the impressive work!

Excellent points and observations! I did also think of her car crash and broken arm but forgot to mention it; that U-Turn implies a crash and burn for sure. Part of me is still hoping (against hope) that maybe she'll get away with it just like she got away with it at Svensen's in the opening scene. Maybe Jimmy will step in and save her, just as her Mom did. I also meant to say more about Lalo's broken ribs and the implications moving forward. SO many thoughts! It was hard to keep it down to 25 minutes or whatever it ended up being.

@@courtneysreviews438 sure but that makes up for a great excuse to do another video 😉 (and what of the episode title, seems like the grind is Kim's isn't it?); And we definitely must not forget Lalo's acting skill, there should be an Emmy category just for those great pretender characters (at least then Dalton would be sure to secure a win!). A couple of things so obvious no one's felt them worth mentioning but which I just realized. "Grind" is what happens to Howard's beans. Gus carries his own PTSD & it was triggered by Nacho's death. Thanks for another insightful breakdown. One thing that's bothering me is the theory I've heard from several people that Jimmy & Kim have hired the PI. The first time we see the PI is after Howard surprises Jimmy at the boxing ring. How would Jimmy & Kim "plant" a PI for Howard to hire? I don't think they know about the PI and this may be the downfall of their plan.
@rs5352
@rs5352 2 жыл бұрын
I think they knew they would get caught and that Howard would hire a Private Investigator. But I disagree with the idea that they’re in charge of which P.I. I think they just show what they want to show, trusting that any P.I. will see it and report it. And I think their note about delivery was how to get those pictures to Howard before the trial. I think part of this plan working is Howard legitimately hiring an honest and professional P.I. Jimmy and Kim will have to pull back those pics later so that Howard can’t confront the P.I. with them to see if he delivered them. Ultimately the plan will work, but there will be some new event added on that probably makes the whole thing not worth it.

What are your thoughts on BCS as a tragedy? The conflict between Jimmy and Chuck is almost Shakespearean. Kim’s tragic flaw might be greed - not for money - but for more. It could also be hubris. Jimmy’s could be a need for love and acceptance. First from Chuck now from Kim.

Funny you mentions Shakespeare as I see Kim and Jimmy as the Macbeths. It is definitely a tradgedy, whatever the actual outcome (death, prison, divorce...) What would happen between Kim and Jimmy if they pull off D-Day without anyone getting hurt, but the end-result is not what they expect? What if they lose? Or get less than expected? Or the result is delayed? None of their previous schemes have failed. I think they might turn their disappointment against each other. Maybe this happens slowly and they end up in a loveless marriage like Howard and Cheryl. Or, maybe it happens quickly when Kim takes whatever Lalo offers because it would be anything but a grind. And yet - I don't really see their relationship ending badly. Saul uses "Ice Station Zebra" and that's Kim. Maybe I just don't want anyone to get hurt?

May I address a couple of things some people have doubts about? Yes, the drug IS applied topically; that's how it was tested on Jimmy & it left his skin dry. Yes, the PI IS in cahoots with Kim & Jimmy; why else would Jimmy have a batch next to him in his car. A question that may be way off the mark: who ELSE is the PI in cahoots with? Jimmy & the judge just happened to be in the same line? We see a lot of coincidences in real life. Sometimes they're not as far out as they first seem; those ABQ Isotopes air fresheners are all over the place. We also are presented with so many situations & stimuli that coincidences are inevitable & boy, do they stand out when they occur. In a work of fiction, however, it smacks of corner cutting, as much of a weakness in a writer as in a lawyer.

Awesome video!! My theory is that Kim and Howard’s past is darker than we know. Perhaps there was some sort of abuse or infidelity involving the two of them. Maybe Howard’s wife knows about this and other abuses/affairs. They take down Howard, and Jimmy is finally made aware of how Howard really hurt Kim. Jimmy hires someone from that little black book to beat him within an inch of his life, but the guy goes too far and kills him. He goes to prison, but Jimmy goes into hiding. He covers his tracks well enough to not get suspected of hiring a hitman. Kim is killed by Lalo when she will not disclose where Jimmy is hiding out while waiting for news of Howard’s death to die down. Lalo is hunting down Jimmy because he finds that Jimmy and Mike have a history together, and assumes he’s always been working for Gus. Lalo is killed by Gus and buried below the super lab. Jeff they cab driver is the brother of the man who killed Howard, when the black books code gets cracked, his brother’s contact info is inside. He somehow finds a way to track down Jimmy, collect the reward and avenge his relative. Jimmy is still a “friend of the cartel” and calls them to help him deal with this problem *full disclaimer, I have no proof to back any of this up. Just having some fun.

I thought the X meant crosshairs like with a gun and scope and the building in that yellow colour which usually means danger I was thinking lalo

Ooohhh good reading! I think this is a real possibility (though many people disagree). I think the storyline will converge at some point, and given how wounded Lalo is (broken ribs), he may be turning to both or one of them for help.

@@courtneysreviews438 lol I'm probably completely wrong your theory is more credible, it just reminded me of a caught in the crosshairs moment

@@heydrich39 I think had it been a cross (+) as opposed to an x, it would be more suggestive of cross hairs as opposed to a no-go as I read it, but your's is just as good a theory as any!

"Delivery how?" is absolutely about how they're going to get Howard to take the drug. I'd be surprised if something like that is topical. I wish they could get him to drink dosed cucumber water!

Kim started her current string of "doing it for Jimmy's best interest" when she wrote the letter Jimmy thought was from Chuck. Will we ever learn what was in the real letter from Chuck? Shaping Jimmy's reality via specific omissions has become routine for Kim. She has built this up too much and the momentum from the con is the only thing distracting her from paralyzing fear of death via Lalo.

I've heard this theory that she wrote the letter before but I strongly disagree. Chuck wrote the letter before Jimmy became a lawyer and was still working in the mailroom. I think this based on the episode where Jimmy figured out that Chuck used his phone in the middle of the night to call Howard to tell him not to hire Jimmy. When Jimmy confronts Chuck, Chuck tells Jimmy he *was* proud of him when he turned his life around by leaving Cicero and working in the mailroom. Jimmy responds, "so I'm good enough to work in the mailroom, but not as a lawyer?" And that is when we get the line about Slipping Jimmy with a law degree is like a chimp with a machine gun.

Also... Howard:Better Call Saul::Hank:Breaking Bad. Season one, both present as professionally successful with personality flaws. Then we learn about their troubled marriages. Then they finally figure out that Walt is Heisenberg... and Kim is Dr. Saulenstein.
