@@camilogomezkeep2324 Exactly. The house was built in 1929, so it's 95 years old. Marilyn only owned it for 4 months before committing suicide in the home. Now it has to be a shrine to her? Ridiculous.
@KVNDV1
@KVNDV1 14 күн бұрын
It was owned by her for nearly seven months, and whether she committed suicide or not has not been positively determined. The term used at the time was “probable suicide”. Theodore Curphey, the Los Angeles County coroner, was a corrupt official as was Chief Parker of the LAPD. Both had mob connections. This makes what Curphey said suspicious.

At closing the escrow agent discloses the title report, i.e. flood area, easements, and other items pertinent to the property. They knew it was marked as a historic property due to notoriety of the previous owner. So it wasnt hidden from the buyer. The title says the exterior needs to stay the same, they can do whatever they want to the interior as the exterior of the structure is prominent. The very same thing happened to the buyer of the Playboy mansion. He got upset that he couldnt expanded the structure.

How do you even move it? It sure looks like a large, old home. They'll need to move it in sections and who knows if it will fall apart. The foundation is probably cement. You can't move that. With the home not visible from the street what will the public lose if it's torn down? The tour buses just drive by, saying her home is somewhere behind that wall, but the tourists can't even see it. I remember the original Taco Bell being moved. That's quite small. For this home, it will be complicated.

Unfortunately the current owners have disguised it, but there were fans there gawking from time to time. Many of the other homes in the neighborhood landscape their homes from view, so sort of can’t single them out. Maybe somebody should reconstruct Marylyn’s home as it really was in 1960 somewhere else….like at an MGM type park. The fans would enjoy being able to go inside and be welcome. Wait what!? I get that moving it is a possibility, but it's not really the same as it staying in its original place. Can't the city rate it as a listed building? Sorry, don't know US equivalents, but in the UK they can rate it Grade 1 listed which means neither the exterior or interior can be changed. I believe garden structures can also be listed. Then Grade 2, to the best of my knowledge just means the exterior can't be changed. However there are some conservation rules where interior details need to be preserved. Surely the US has this type of thing? I know that Americans always lean to Europe for history, but the US is packed with its own history that is still seen as important, not just to Americans but to Europeans too.

I thought this was debated, voted on and decided last year? Did the owner think after things quieted down that they would quietly have it demolished while nobody was watching? It’s people like this who consider Leonardo DiCaprio “old Hollywood”.

They should keep this house the next few hundreds years unless Judgment Day is first. What kind of a person would have a personal vendetta against Marilyn Monroe that they would use their big real estate money and power to try to destroy one of her good homes she really lived in.

While I would like the city/state/county to preserve something like this, it was sold to an independent buyer and they have a right to do what they want. The city/state/county could’ve bought it several times if it meant that much. Moving the structure, to me, doesn’t keep the integrity or history. There are so many other historical artifacts from Marilyn that will keep people satisfied for years to come, but to be honest, as generations that grew up with her or knew of her leave this earth, there will not be much demand for her.

You are really wrong lol... I was going to set an example, but my profile picture talks alone. I'm a teen, and everyone I know, either knows her or loves her. She died in early 1960's, and keeps being the no.1 legend of old hollywood, and her estate keeps gaining millions, so her demand just keeps growing and growing.

How can they turn it into a museum if it’s been gutted several times and nothing of the original interior remains? I think the home has changed owners 14 times since Marilyn‘s death. It’s not a historical landmark anymore.

Moving Marilyn’s home seems like a wise idea. That way the current owners will have a clean slate of a property to build upon, and Marilyn’s fans can relocate and maintain the house elsewhere as a historical monument, a tribute to the star. To keep things fair for the current owners, they should be reimbursed at the full current value of the house, paid for by fundraising, not tax dollars.

@@naomiweaver1855 I understand you point but preservation doesn’t work like that. They can’t build replicas from scratch, they can only refurbish, otherwise it’s not preservation anymore. It’s like buying replica art vs refurbishing an original. No one is going to spend millions on a replica, but they will if it’s a restored original. The inside of the house is gone. And I’ve personally seen amazing homes in my old neighborhood completely torn down from the Revolutionary War in the 1700’s, because the preservation society said the interior was modified too much from the original. Not to mention, Monroe only lived there very briefly. I personally don’t think it’s a candidate for restoration.

See if the late Marilyn Monroe comes back and haunts the ones who want her house torn down. Any other long ago movie star houses on the market or threatened with demolition? Like Joan Crawford's house as shown in photos in the book her daughter wrote About It All? The toolshed by the incinerator where Joan told Christina to get the big saw so she could cut down the orange tree?
