Leopold definitely knew his business. But more than that, he lived life to its fullest. His book contains tremendous convictions and knowledge of the need for lands to be preserved for future generations. He wanted future generations of hunters and nonhunters to be able to experience parts of America as he had 100 years ago. Folks such as he wanted life to stay the same for many generations to come. His fear was that if we lost all of these lands and their bounties, we as Americans would be the worse off for it. He was driven from within for a deep desire for the future to always have a part of the past, otherwise, we would lose sight of ourselves and what made us explorers looking for that missing part of our past. Steve, your life and your dedication will speak the same way to future generations to come. God forbid if we ever lose our precious lands and their wildlife.

I live in middle of nowhere Colorado close to the 4 corners, and 99% of everyone i know agrees that the Turkey isn't in our area. So much so we don't have a season here, but an hour west they hunt turkeys all the time on the other side of the divide. However there is a little flock that moved in close to my house, first Turkey's sighted in this area for 20 years. Gives me hope.

Great video. In the 80s the USFWS got permission to capture wild turkeys in Durango, Chihuahua, and Coahuila Mexico to repopulate some national forests & wilderness areas in both New Mexico & Arizona. I cannot remember how many turkeys were live captured & then released but I am sure it was in the hundreds. Then, the conservation success history you are talking about (and Leopold so wisely & thoroughly envisioned) was, in some way, helped by your southern neighbors (Mexico) too.
