I am impressed with the craftmanship that went into the original building and the materials used not only by the church builders, but also that of the Romans that built the original fort. It is incredible that centuries later the items that they created and built are still there in the church after surviving the forces of nature and time that seek to erode them into the annals of history. Please pass on my gratitude and praise to the entire team working on saving this beautiful piece of history.

Impressive craftsmanship to preserve building history

I grew up nearby and visited Reculver about ten years ago and someone had built a fire inside by the towers, blackening the stones slightly, and there was just trash everywhere. No one nearby was particularly interested so it's really nice to see that it is now getting the care and attention that it deserves.

Fascinates me how old this building is. Amazing to think all those centuries ago the people who worshipped there

Well done EH. I grew up on “Planet Thanet” and now live thousands of miles away but, whenever I get back there, whether by car or train, I know I’m home when I pass the towers on my left. They’re definitely or my “to do” list the next time I get back home.

Totally agree. They are Kent side of the wansum I think and then your on the planet. I left 40 years ago and can't say I miss it but it's nice to visit and the reculver towers are outstanding.

I’m an avid Time Team watcher. Would be interesting to see them investigate this site. Imagine the ‘geo-fizz’ on this one! Wow

The site was investigated in the 1960s by a team led by Brian Philp.

Will it be possible to go inside the reroofed area!
@darthmarticusLFC6 ай бұрын
I’m sitting outside it right now, the stairs to go up inside the towers are blocked by a door with a simple four digit combination lock. I tried 1810 which is the number on the plaque but no luck.

@@darthmarticusLFC Back in the 1980s you could go up one tower and then walk across to the other.

Love the work but advertising the lead replacement roof gives undesirable potential future theft. The height will not stop the determined.

All that money and it's going fall into the ocean within the next century

There's a lot more land around it that would flood first making the Wansum channel wider again and cutting off Thanet once more.
