Your section in the video where it explains "Why the demonstration works" helped a lot, seeing the equation work both ways, and angular momentum still being conserved made a lot of sense. Thank you.

Angular momentum is a compound movement of linear direction equally combined with rotational direction. The perfect example is seen in every professional golfers swing. Other then that I could not do the math to save my life. Cheers 😃👍

I think simply to say the amount of oomph I receive when someone slaps me tells me the angular momentum. So does that mean momentum is impact?

I am very confuse with bicycle example if angular movement is a vector it can have direction only in one dimension 8:25 as in your bicycle example the angular movement in to the left side so, my question is how we are able to maintain balance in cycle if the angular movementum point to the left why we don't fall on left side?? I hope that my question make sense...
@carultch3 жыл бұрын
Vectors do not have direction in only one dimension. In 3-d space, they have direction in all three dimensions. The fact that angular momentum points to the left is just a convention. It doesn't mean that you should rotate to the left. It indicates the axis of rotation, which is none of the directions of the linear velocities of rotation.

In relation to the conservation of angular momentum: If the Big Bang Theory is true and the universe began with the big bang.... Why do two planets spin backwards?
@carultch2 жыл бұрын
The first part of your question is about the big bang theory, the second part of your question is about the formation of the solar system. The formation of the solar system is several steps removed from the big bang theory. That is like asking "if cyanobacteria are responsible for the existence of the first molecules of elemental oxygen in our atmosphere, why can't people smell oxygen?". The origins of life on Earth is several levels removed from the evolution of the human species.

Dear Sir, I am sorry to have to be the one to point this out but your demonstration of the swivel chair does not conserve angular momentum. The prediction that "it spins faster" is not a scientific prediction. "it spins faster" is an infantile and negligent prediction. Unfortunately we have been doing this for centuries. A scientific prediction must be evaluated and when we do that, we find that none of the demonstrations and examples conserve angular momentum. Please see example 1: www.baur-research.com/Physics/measure.html. According to Richard Feynman, if the results of experiment differ from the predictions of theory, then the theory is wrong. Irrelevant of who developed it or how many people are convinced by it, the theory is wrong. In other words, the law of conservation of angular momentum is WRONG!

The information in your link is infantile and negligent..... using a a completely made up uncertainty: +/- .2 seconds due to the stop watch? watching a video on a monitor with a refresh-rate, at a certain fps which is further dependent on your system and how the video your watching was filmed and then depending on your eyes and your reaction time to be the measuring device. Yeahhhh well call that +/- .2 sounds good! Id say if you adjust your uncertainty to realistic levels then even your own calculations disprove your point and prove conservation of angular momentum. I expect you to conduct this experiment on your own with effective measuring tools and realistic provable uncertainties and then show us your data and your math! That's actually how science works dude. Good luck.
@TheAnimammal4 жыл бұрын
FreedomFighter a frame rate error is negligible when compared to .2 seconds you ignorant moron.
