i saw the harpy eagle in the thumbnail, my freaking favorite animal and bird ever since i'm like a foetus I HAD TO CLICK AND WATCH Am so jealous, just seeing it irl i'd be dying of happiness and YOU ARE HOLDING ONE ??? °0° so jealous (in a good way) if i was able to see them with binoculars in the wild even if they would be far, i'd also be very happy x)

Was lucky and lived by the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN. for a few years, fantastic program there, tour includes getting very close to really impressive birds.

okay holy crap i never expected you to go here! I live an hour away from here and got to visit almost 10 years ago now!! I fell IN LOVE with Bogart and im so happy to see him there still i literally gasped. It was such a cool experience going here and i think about it a lot. The people here are really nice and care so much about animals. I got to talk to and pet Bogart, spit an owl ear fact, pet an armadillo, have a falcon fly over us AND (idk if this is a thing still) but we got to see Elk and got close to the female herd. (unintentionally they literally came around the corner lol my mom stepped in front of us and shouted no and the alpha female was like ight damn bye lol) If any of you read this and visit Missouri please stop by here

Wait... Did that macaw understand ethics? He had a choice between a crow buck and a treat, and knew he had to pay for the treat by putting the money in the box, and didn't go for the treat because he hadn't paid yet. That's an insanely high level of intelligence right there, way beyond what I thought even macaws had. These past few years have really opened my eyes. Just 5 years ago, I was convinced the human kind of intelligence was unique to us, but after seeing parrots with ethics, spiders dreaming and herrons teaching their young which best bait to use for tool-based fishing, I've had to completely re-evaluate my view on intelligence.

A harpy eagle is about 15 times less dense than a deer. Since they can "only" carry about a third of their weight, that means a deer hunting harpy eagle would have to be about 45 times the size of the deer.

Bald eagles sound so cool. I don't understand why Hollywood felt it necessary to replace their sounds with red-tailed hawks. The hawks sound cool too, but it just doesn't fit the magestic chonk that is the eagle.

Long before I knew about biomagnification, I despised rodenticides because it just doesn't work. There's absolutely no point in using it, because rodents are really smart animals. They might fall for it once or twice, but they don't all go to the same place and eat the same things at once. One brave member will check the new thing out, and if that member dies, the rest of the family stays away from that thing. I tried warning the office I worked at about this, but they didn't listen and put out rat traps. The result? Rats in the walls because they no longer liked the outside, where the poison was!

my grandma is a biologist and naturalist and she said that using the humane mouse traps is actually more cruel because releasing the mice in other places that aren’t their home is dangerous for them and they will just starve or die slowly or something…
