Hasan is underestimating. It's not that they're dumb. Here's how it works: 1. The far-right knows it's satire, but they still idolize it because they look at Homelander and think "This, but unironically". 2. The regular right also knows it's satire, but they're still capable of enjoying the show, as long as it's entertaining. 3. So, the writers decided to make it more and more on the nose, so as to "clear any confusion". But there was never any confusion. You made a character that represents the far right. They loved it. You made him narcisistic, handsome and powerful. So you try and act as if they're just dumb and didn't notice it was satire. They DID notice. They just don't care. Like a sexual fantasy, they just want to continue indulging in it. So they can still enjoy it for as long as Homelander himself doesn't point to the camera and say: "Hey! I'm evil and you're stupid!" Which is pretty much what they made him do, and that's why right wingers are pissed, that's why they're complaining about "poor writing". It was blunt before, but now it's just so in their face that they can't even indulge in it anymore.

@ericklopes40464 ай бұрын
@@viciouspen Ok, please hear me out. It's no grandmaster plan, and it isn't a case of just plain dumbness either. It's a matter of optics. I'll explain with a video game. Helldivers 2. You know that in the game's universe, you're in the wrong, it's obviously satirical, but it's still an incredibly popular game, many enjoy it (including the far right, who, again, indulge a bit too much in the roleplay). Why? Because even though the Helldivers are obviously portrayed as fascistic cannon fodder, it still feels epic and grand. It's still fun, and that allows the far right to put the fact that it's a satire aside and just indulge in militaristic roleplay. Just forget that it's satire and have fun with violence and gameplay. It's not that they *don't know* it's satire, they do know. They just put it aside. Now imagine for a moment if all the NPCs started pointing the finger directly at the player, saying "you're literally Hitler" every 5 seconds. Imagine if after every completed objective, the game condemned war crimes. It would probably stop being enjoyable and become just annoying to them. That's what right wingers are complaining about in The Boys. Homelander is obviously satirical, but seeing that the far right was idolizing him, they cranked it up even more, and it just ended up being not enjoyable to them anymore.

Look at Harry Potter, Rowling is objectively (and I don't use that word lightly when it comes to art) a terrible writer, but she stumbled across an idea that was marketable as hell and extremely inoffensive (for people that were just there for a good time, which everyone was at first)
@greasher9264 ай бұрын
I think there are two different types of writing. There is profound writing that doesn’t cater to anything except the writers point of view. Oftentimes the writing’s value isn’t fully recognized until way later when the writer has long since passed away. And then there is entertaining writing that caters to the masses, it doesn’t really stand on anything and after the zeitgeist has passed the writing has mostly been forgotten.

The 4th season has a scene of clones tossing the salad train at the very start at a conservative convention. It is hilarious! and i suspect that scene is why they now hate it.. :D

This is such a cringe take that keeps getting parroted over and over again. No one thought the show wasn't woke from the beginning. Shows can be "woke" and still be entertaining. The problem comes from how bad the storyline has gotten simply to push crappy political agendas. It like "liberals" don't understand what the meaning of nuance. The guy(crit. drinker) this guy is reacting to literally says this as the closing segment of his video and you still have morons with this braindead take saying.... "conservatives didn't know the show was making fun of them until season 4 lul"

@@dewilton7712 I could give a rat's ass about USA politics since I am not even from the same continent, and I have noticed a drop in quality in the first three episodes. Can't we just not strawman all the critics of the fourth season and ponder for a moment to study if there has been an actual drop in quality? I'm not saying S4 is trash but it's DEFINITELY not as good as season 1.
@dewilton77124 ай бұрын
@@Cristian-vh5fh S2-3 was not quite as good as 1 either. Only watched Episode of season and it seems on par so far. Why make comments on a US politics video that is about conservative people that finally realized the satire against them? And the politics are relavant in other parts of the world using the same fascist and bigoted tactics as our people.

But the saddest part are the episodes when he doesn't target star wars ect, and he uses his actual literacy skills to teach us, because you start realizing that he is really not good at it.

Gotta love how he uses a clip of Obi-Wan Kenobi to transition into talking about the boys, not recognizing Obi-Wan Kenobi was in opposition to another Nazi allegory in the Empire. Let me guess, he doesn’t realize the Empire is evil in Star Wars. It’s gotta be willful self to see, right? Are they actually this uncritical about the things that they watch?

About 20% of the population are dumb enough that it's a genuine problem in their lives, and satire is definitely going to pass them by. On top of that, feels like about 40% of the young conservatives have severe autism and would be ill suited to understand satire, even extremely obvious satire would pass them by. It's why Colbert had conservative viewers.. Satire is hard for the dumb and for certain groups of neurodiverse people. Those same people are also extremely prolific in online discourse. It's absurd how dumb some people are.. And it's sad how broken others are.
