I’m pretty sure Ben’s “except when the mother’s life is at risk” caveat is based on his interpretation of the principle of pikuach nefesh, which is the halakhic (Jewish legal) principle that says preserving life ALWAYS overrides any other religious law. What makes his position especially bizarre to me, though, is that even literal hasidim are more liberal than Ben on this issue - when the mother’s life is at any level of risk, abortion is not only allowed but is specifically commanded and regarded as a morally good act. Anyone authentically deriving their positions from Jewish law, as opposed to using their religiosity as a post-hoc justification to hold their far-right beliefs even when they’re demonstrably false, would not be talking about abortion the way Ben does.

And I'm not 100% sure about the Jewish God, but the Christian God is decidedly *NOT* cool with that. At all. I think he even made it one of his "10 big no no's" or whatever it's called. When my wife was pregnant the increase of her estrogen levels flared up malignancies in her breast making them metastasize to her spine and lymph nodes which almost killed her. We were almost at the point where we would have had to choose between her or the baby. Removing abortions takes away this choice which is surprisingly frequent for a variety of different reasons. I cant imagine a reality where that option is taken away from people. Why are these white men talking about pregnancy like it's a simple straight forward procedure? It would be interesting to see the rate of postnatal depression among women in places which have outlawed abortion in contrast with places that allow it. My guess is forcing an SA victim to carry to full term is psychologically damaging.

Mr. Cawthorn really thought he had something with that comparison. Like, you realize how asinine it sounds to tell a woman she can't rip up her own picture. Ugh quit comparing people to inanimate objects. 🙄 Also, I'd feel a lot better morally if a woman gets an abortion than if a woman has that baby and leaves it in a dumpster. Or worse, beats, abuses, or neglects said child. A man shouldn't legally be able to walk away from a child or have the option to not take care of it. Everyone gets a DNA test at birth where your parents are confirmed and then both parents have to care for physically and financially for that child until adult hood. Madness!

So she went to the local doctor and was like “hey if you do not get rid of my pregnancy, I will unalive myself” and held up a knife to her wrist. She didn’t want her or the fetus to live through abuse by the hands of her ex husband. The doctor knew she was dead serious and did the abortion for her and apparently she was able to walk away from her marriage and all that safely.
