“The way you go about becoming the future leader is not actually to have a group that's called something going around touting as the future leader.”
The more Tory MPs plot to oust Rishi Sunak,“the fewer there will be in Parliament to stand for the leadership” says William Hague on #TimesRadio.

The arrogance of these people. They have no concept of the common good and no interest in the plight of our country. Power is just a plaything, a toy to Tories. They don't suffer, no matter what.

Their ideological dogma and Party survival has always been more important than the Country and its diversity, they represent the top 30% of the country in wealth terms, First Past the Post allows them to simply gain marginal seats and power by promising everything and delivering for mainly their 'Class'! But this time stagflation since 2010, Brexit, Covid incompetence and corruption and simply the lack of any real empathy will see them being defeated. I hope we move to PR in the 2030's that will split the Hard Right and Far Left off of both main parties and move to consensus politics, or we will become a parody of the politics seen in the USA!

@@bryangeake5826 I’d take issue that their heartland is where the affluent elite reside. You won’t find a single Tory MP in Oxford or Cambridge or most of the wealthy parts of London either. They do have some wealthy Home Counties constituencies but their rock solid safe seats are pi$$ poor rural backwaters full of insular people with low academic achievement. Places like Boston, Clacton, Bedfordshire, Cornwall, Lincolnshire, the most deprived areas of East Anglia along with the deeply rural central west. Just as in America the ‘right’ have found a new constituency comprised of people who have next to nothing but whose prejudices are easy to tap into.

Sunak makes Starmer seem dynamic. Sunak was not a good Chancellor for that matter. Most of the suggested candidates are crazy and will not bring the remnants of the more moderate Tories together with the crazier ones - Boris got rid of an awful lot of moderates in his drive to "get Brexit done". Kezia Dugdale had an extremely sensible point in that who you want to rebuild the Tories is not exactly the same as who you would want for Government - unfortunately the membership are as mad as some of the suggested candidates so you have to hope that the MPs either select their own choice or just come down to a saner two candidates - maybe get someone from the HoL (not Cameron though!)
