To be generous, he was naive in the extreme, as an MP, in communicating with a stranger via an app. It is unforgivable that, when threatened with exposure via 'compromat' (which, I presume, was not his official portrait) he tried to save his own reputation by throwing colleagues and perhaps others to the wolves.

The process is important to define the crime and subsequent charges if any.
