I think there's two main issue that makes this a bad steal is using last year's chipset and the price being to close to the Pro models. Had they put recent hardware or priced it a tad less, this phone would've sold fine. Maybe they should introduce an iPhone Pro mini and at that price.

For the price, the compromises on specs are not ok. The screen should be 120hz, the cameras should be as on the Pro and storage on all iPhones should be 256gb base. Thanks to these "reviews" people believe it's ok to pay more for less just for Apples bottom line.

Apple obviously did this on purpose as they knew that putting 120hz refesh rate on this would make it an easy choice of a phone and will cannibalize the pros, because who really cares about those other features? They will make you want to spend money on the pros and nothing else.

Honestly, if Apple would’ve put 120hz refresh rate on this model, they would’ve had an absolute banger on their hands. The A15 is still plenty fast (besides other companies use multiple chipsets) and the lesser value would’ve been having the 2 camera set up instead of the 3 like on the Pro model. Hopefully Apple gets their act right next year, I love the 14 Pro Max tho.

@Nonconven-Shaun-al and I’ve kept all of my Pro Max phones; I could not be a techie and still justify the 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max in battery alone. If the 14 Plus had Pro Motion and it’s insane battery life then the average consumer could easily justify this purchase, especially if they plan on using JT for the next 5-6 years like most iPhone users do. Honestly, I don’t like Samsung’s approach of just flooding the market with phones; especially with how slow Android phones are to push out updates, the more phone a manufacturer has, the chances of the lower end phones not getting proper support (security patches).

Honestly the iPhone 14 Plus is an awesome phone. I came from the iPhone 13 Pro and having a bigger phone that’s lighter and better color options with aluminum rails is a no brainer for me. I am also one that can’t really tell a difference between ’s 60 to 120 refresh rate  screens are that good.

@@superiortoall22 Valid points. I also think  took this year off due to the EU decision so they can really focus on iPhone 15. I am personally liking the iPhone 14 plus. I am coming from an iPhone 13 Pro which was a great phone as well I really didn’t use it full camera capability and with the extra weight decided to scoop up the iPhone 14 plus for a bigger screen and less weight. The A15 in this phone feels like a more polished version than the one in iPhone 13.

Nice review Jaime. I have it, I like it. Of course I’d rather have the Pro features, but I hate the weight of the stainless steel. Unnecessary weight just to differentiate it make it more “premium”, even though 95% use a case. I wish they would have at LEAST put a 90hz display.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving this phone a chance and NOT seeing it as a "test the waters" phone. SO MANY KZbinrs have written this phone off. I ordered the 14 pro max and continued to research all 14 models. Only you and one other KZbinr had several videos praising this phone. I really wanted a bigger screen and the battery life on the Plus made me look closer. The more I looked I looked at the "practical" vs specs, I realized this was the phone for me. When the 14 pro arrived, I didn't open the box and took it straight to my carrier and ordered the Plus. Extremely happy that I made a common sense decision and ignored the hype.

I had the IPhone 14 pro max since launch and I hate the weight of it. Too heavy and it doesn’t feel balanced. Super top heavy. I just got the 14 Plus and man…this might be my favorite iPhone. Last couple of iPhones iPhone 11>iPhone 12 mini>iPhone 13 pro >iPhone 14 pro max>iPhone 14 plus

I like how open this review is. Every point you make is well thought-out and makes sense. The Plus Model was made for a certain demographic which was the one you mentioned. However, the main downside to picking a device that has the hardware of last year's modela on a higher price tag is that: The iPhone 13 pros are gonna be the better pick. They're gonna get their prices cut and you'd be getting more from them than you would with the Plus models. Even if there are features you won't be using, they'll be serving you as an extra-an added bonus to the already solid device. So the iPhone 14 Plus is nothing short of bad value. You're paying more than what you're getting. The 13 Pros would be a better pick.

Got the basic 14 after using the 13 pro for a few days.. The weight just annoys me.. Specially after putting on a case.. These phones then feel like a brick… Watching a few videos at night gave me shoulder aches.. With the increase in media consumption the ergonomics need to change.. Phones that are too heavy just don’t do it for me… I wish the flip4 had better cameras, would never sell that for the 14 then…

I agree that there is a niche for this product as well - Must-have-Apple and big screen, lighter, not as expensive. BUT if the first one is missing it is a hard pass. In EU I can get S22 Ultra for same price and there is dozens of big screen phones starting from under 20% of the price (e.g. Oneplus Nord CE 2). Of course cheapest ones aren't on-par in many aspect but on some they are even superior (screen refresh).

Cameras are similar to the pro so the only benefit of the pro is the high refresh rate and the new dynamic island feature. Was the island and pro motion worth an extra £200? Well I now own the 14 plus which tells you the answer. Most importantly I wanted good battery life and I had kept my old XS Max for 4 years which was starting to fail. Very happy with my purchase.

The S22 Ultra is my main phone for photos, videos and content consumption. But it is a large phone, so I bought a used iPhone 13 256gb as a phone I can easily carry around . I'd love to see the $899 to $899 comparison to the Pixel 7 Pro. To me it's a no brainier in favor of more features, but for your use case that doesn't seem to necessarily be true. I think that you would do a really engaging vid with that comparison.

I always go from the pros to the basic phones after a few months. 99% of my experience is the same on both phones, so as a result I prefer a lighter, larger phone with better battery life. That's much more value to me than a fancy camera or dynamic island.

Jaime doesn't run with the pack just because they are all going in the same direction. He really gave this phone a chance and considered people (many by the way) who would love this "step-child"... like myself. I am seriously evaluating some of the KZbinrs I have been following because some are parroting how much better it is to have the 14 pro models and seemingly just because they have all the bells and whistles and anything less is a non-starter. Keep up the great work!
