I always tell people to start with Player of Games as an introduction to the Culture books. I’m definitely not as big on the first book until perhaps having a few of the other books under my belt.

I started with Games as well. Unfortunately I've never made it back to the first one. Games is one of favorite sci fi books. I play chess so I found the games and the world incredibly entertaining. Just watching this is making me want to re read it!

I read The Wasp Factory. I really appreciated the writing. That story was a pass, but I've been interested in reading more of his work.

I'm so excited to hear your reviews as you work your way through this wonderful series of books. I hope that when it's all done and dusted, you consider checking out The Algebraist. I loved it the first time through, but years later when I read it again, I got so much more out of it that I'd missed the first time through, including, perhaps embarrassingly, a full appreciation for the overall theme that was being explored.

@@B.LEE.DbrianleedurfeeREVIEWS For some reason even Iain M Banks fans rarely mention the Algebraist. I think it gets overlooked because it is not set in the Culture universe, which I think is a real shame, as it is a very strong sci fi novel in its own right, and in classic Banks style.

I'm new enough to your channel that I'm not yet versed on what all u have read, for me tho, I dont find Banks or Reynolds heavy (i do love them). I def feel Egan and Delaney to be me go-to for more heavy. Have you read much Egan or Delaney, or Gibson? Thoughts?
