After about 20 years of curiosity, I just figured out how and why my true speech and some of my vernacular sound like and are borrowed from British English even I am American born and raised. It makes even more sense that my earliest teachers including my first school music teacher in addition to my kindergarten and first grade (and also maybe pre-K) either were from the UK or were children of British immigrants. I have always adjusted my speech since middle school to enunciate American English in order to not sound like a weird multiethnic scally who hopped across the pond 😜 This takes me way back.
