For me, it's gotta be "Van Helsing" starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale. For what it is as a Halloween Romp, its not as bad as people make it out to be. Is the CGI dated? Yes. Does it take a while for things to really get moving? At times, yes. But Hugh Jackman and Richard Roxburgh did great jobs playing Helsing and Dracula. And the novelty of all these big monsters coming together was very much fun. I should pop it in for shiggles on Halloween! Thoughts, Jeremy?
@Gevaudan14714 жыл бұрын
The CGI was pretty revolutionary for the time, and tbh their werewolves are still the best I've seen ever portrayed in film (they're rock stars!) It's also the only movie I can think of that incorporates these 4 legendary monsters into the narrative smoothly.
@josephreber434 жыл бұрын
@@Gevaudan1471 My favorite elements were the Werewolves as well. And Frankenstein's monster kinda reminded me of the Monster from "Young Frankenstein" played by Peter Boyle, only a bit more roided out and given some steampunk add-ons. As for the narrative, I don't remember it much, but what I do remember is a few exposition scenes that felt a bit stale, and quite a lot of time spent away from the action. I'd love to see a *Re-Vamp* (ba-doon, ching!) of the movie with a fresher storyline, Jackman and Roxburgh back, and a blend of practical effects and "His Dark Materials" level of realistic CGI used for the Monsters. Usually, I tend to be a stickler for canon, but I've always really enjoyed this movie, Constantine. No, Reeves's version here is not faithful to the source material, but Reeves's cynicism and burned-out attitude helped establish the character. I thought the best thing about this movie was the story itself. The CGI was dated, but along with really strong performances by all, it more than makes up for any digital shortcomings. Rachel Weisz will always have my heart, Stormare crushed as the Devil, Hounsou killed as Midnight, and Jahns didn't mention how good Tilda Swinton did as Gabriel. And just like that, without us knowing, Keanu Reeves became the deadliest, most dangerous man in the world.

I’m a big fan of the comics. The movie is a departure from the comic. I still love it.

I actually love Constantine! I was happy to see your video about it, not enough people talk about it. I agree Keanu Reeves is brilliant in this, and yes I absolutely looooove Peter Stormare as Lucifer! He’s just fantastic in everything he does.

I quit smoking after watching the movie at the theathres... havent smoked a sinlge one since then. Guess the big screen & convulsing of blood etc did its magic on me in terms of quitting smoking.

I love this movie, and back in the day, I knew a lot of the lines, it is really quotable. I don't think it's a bad movie. It's a TERRIBLE Hellblazer movie, but a good movie on it's own.

This movie was great. Very cynical, gritty, but knew exactly what it was doing and nailed it without going too far

Highly agree. Not overly dramatic. The more cynical comedic devil performance was excellent and kept with the tone or vibe.

Is he right about the movie in the fact that if its on, I'm watching it. It's one of those movies where you can't over think it and sure it doesn't follow the comics that well, but the acting is good and it's a good time.

Glad to see someone else likes Constantine. This movie has gotten a bad rap from its entire existence but if you just watch it as a fun popcorn flick it’s really entertaining.
@Saicofake4 жыл бұрын
It got a bad rap because it was based off the comic books. A lot of fans were bashing it because of the differences. The sad thing, it was actually a solid movie. I really love it.

Also, DC Comics has made Keanu Reeves' version of Constantine canon, as being one of the many versions of the character that the main Constantine is given visions of, or something like that. Either way, American Constantine is an Elseworlds version of the character.

Literally one of the most underrated movies ever. This is the real world. Supernatural warfare. DC comics can make dark comics and movies bc its more realistic af.

Lol what??
@williamparcell91974 жыл бұрын
DC more realistic? No DC comic are generally not as realistic and tend to exist in a more heightened world. That's not a bad thing mind you, the DC characters are just more designed to be almost mythological figures, while Marvel characters are more down to earth and in a lot of ways are just people who get powers. Now a few DC characters can work in a more realistic setting, Constantine is one of them, Batman is another, but most DC characters don't fully work in that setting.

"What if I told you God and The Devil made a bet?" "I would tell you to stay on your meds" "Humour me. What if the God and The Devil made a bet for the souls of all humankind. No direct contact. Only inflience" "Okay why?" "I have no idea. Maybe for the fun of it" "Oh so its fun. Mother smothers her child, all just for fun?" Its been a while since I saw the movie, so forgive me for not repeating the conversion exactly, but its one of my favourite dialogue in movies. The conversation about a absent God and why, is a question I often wonder for myself, if God even exists, why does he allow evil?
