I really hope Doug was just going for a joke, because he really should have been able to decipher this scene. As a film critic, he should be able to decipher subtly and meaning. I don't know how this one could have been lost on him.
@Regolith865 жыл бұрын
@CloudLens Capa Movies should stand on their own, since most people who watch them probably won't have read the source material, particularly for more obscure things like Constantine. If it's not in the movie, it might as well not exist for the majority of the audience. Many critics review movies with that in mind. ...That being said, I've never read any of the source material and I still understood what was going on in that scene, so I think in this case Doug was just being a bit obtuse.
@brionmyers96405 жыл бұрын
@@Wertsir In NC's defense, you should not have to have prior knowledge to enjoy a film. This and Percy Jackson are still bad movies, even though their source material is great. Neither movie worked as an adaptation because they ignored the source material or as an independent film because they don't expand thier worlds.

Satan lights his cigarette, but right before he does, as Constantine is leaning forward weakly to light it, Satan pulls the lighter away. Just for a second. It was such a perfect moment of The Devil being a total dick. Like, even there, he can't pass up an opportunity to be evil. Loved it. Well its "dark" but not dark enough like how the comics goes most of the time, and not even detailed or darker as how the Bible represents all this demons/gods/angels, it is fun but if you want a more realistic depiction of the bible demons and angels you arent going to find it in there, neither a faithful representation of the comic is based on, but if you just want an action movie like Blade but with demons and angels instead of vampires its good enough. Also i think the critic was saying that how he can get away with a self-sacrifice act to "enter heaven" so he can escape the clutches of Lucifer while abusing the hell out of a righteous act right in front of God without being punished? because it looks cool but it does gives away that you arent doing that for a self-sacrifice notion but more like abusing that "rule" so you can escape from ultimate evil cheating your way throught, if it were more accurate he could had been going straight to hell because of that, but then again i get it because its a comic based movie and you are supposed to just turn your brain off and look at the action so i always give it a pass. Saints are a Catholic thing and do not appear in the Bible. @The One Who Laughs Well, Revelation 12 has the Devil represented by a dragon. It is a very metaphorical story of Satan's failed attempt to stop the purpose of the Messiah, and to destroy Israel. The third of the stars he swept from heaven were angels who sided with him; as Satan is actually a rebellious angel himself. Technically, there are no "actual" dragons in the Bible (unless you count the great beasts Behemoth and Leviathan, whose descriptions interestingly resemble dinosaurs), but dragon metaphors are scattered about. With the liberties this movie takes (Gabriel is a MALE! Seriously! Call her Gabrielle if you want!), it's not a big deal for dragons to exist.

I respect the critic's opinion but this is one of those times that i don't see where his argument is coming from. If the movie wants to take this theme "seriously" then let it be. This movie has a couple jokes sprinkled in between scene and most depend on your religious point of view to like them or to even understand them. Neither Shia or Keannu were at their best on this one and some of the characters follow a formula that has been beaten to death but Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton, Djimon Hounsoua and Peter Stormare are great in their roles and i feel the "dullness" of the main character and sidekick is a little intended in order to make room for the rest of the characters and to display a more interesting world that I think is the highlight of the film. 5:18 Actually the bible does mention dragons many times, Doug. No need to mention the seven headed dragon in the book of Revelation. One instance in the bible that references dragons is in Job, chapter 41, if I'm not mistaken. God mentions the leviathan whose description is basically that of a sea serpent. So basically all in all, you should have done a little bit more research, critic.

I didn't. About half of the videos that he does commentary on (that I've seen) I enjoyed. This one was not one of them. Then again, I never read that character's comics, as I only started getting interested in comic books and manga in high school, so I while i walked into the movie with no expectations, that also meant I walked into it having no idea what I SHOULD be expecting and not anything as to what their world is, supernaturally-speaking. Overall I thought the story was predictable....and the main guy's personality only seemed to have three modes: moody, blank-face, and depressed. (Edited for a few forgotten words)

while dragons, behemoths, and leviathans are in the bible, the rest are not. giants are kind of in the bible if you count nephilim, and while they are described as being giant men, but you're probably meaning more like goliath who was a giant, in that he was large and tall in stature, not a nephilim or a separate race of humanoids. the rest are just mistranslations because KJV was written by a bunch of idiots. references to unicorns uses the latin word for rhino. (unicornis) Satyrs refers to goats, specifically a hebrew word meaning a male wild goat. (se'ar) phoenix is the word meaning sand, though it could also refer to palm trees. (Chol) there is a lot of stuff from the KJV that screwed up entire generations of people, all because king james didn't know how to read the original languages and hired a bunch of people who also didn't know how to read the languages to translate the bible.

Yeah, that scene with him trying to drink but the liquid not coming out of the bottle is hands down the best scene in the movie. I used to have this kind of nightmare constantly. It's on par with Nightmare on Elm's Street walking up the steps but one foot sinking in scene.

I don't think this is stated in the movie, but for me it makes sense that the devil canceled the apocalypse because deep down, he's scared of the final battle, he sees very possible that he will lose it, which leads to him postponing it indefinitely and humankind always living on the promise of a final battle that will never come.

@Fluffkitscripts5 жыл бұрын
I think the gripes about his performance come from how Constantine is written as boisterous and arrogant in most interpretations. He deals with his crippling self-doubt and existential dread by being ridiculously loud and confident. Anyway, writing an unfunny Constantine is like writing an unfunny spider-man. Not only does it change the flavor, it takes a huge chunk of the character depth away.
