The Crusaders destroyed Constantinople, looted Roman artifacts, stole holy items brought from Jerusalem. They smashed the graves of Roman emperors and stole their bones. Roman artefacts stolen from Constantinople are exhibited in Italy today. Holy items brought from Jerusalem were lost and never found again.

The fall of Constantinople and of the Byzantine Empire begun with the 4th Crusade. All the treasures were stolen and the crusaders left nothing at the Byzantine treasury. And we all know that a country without its wealth its a country without an army to defend it and an army without an army is doom.

You truly have captured the majesty and beauty of this city, both as a Greco-Roman and Turkish one. I also appreciate you took the time to edit out the minarets of Hagia Sophia for the Byzantine montage. Fantastic job as usual! There's just a single structure, I'm not sure if it's modded or just one in-game that simply appears as a graphic on districts for certain architectural styles, but what appears to be a middle-eastern looking improvement appears many times during the Ottoman montage. It first appears at 3:27 in the commercial hub with the Grand Bazaar, to the right of the screen. Just a little inquisitive at what it could be.

I sort of wish the hagia Sophia didnt have minarets in civ because that's how it was originally. Perhaps adding an ottoman wonder like the blue mosque could be a good way to balance things out
@awtqrtrkjsrs
@awtqrtrkjsrs 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasondaveries9716 Agreed. Or maybe even the minarets only appear in the renaissance era and then in the medieval era it doesn't have them, but having them all the time contradicts how basically every in-game wonder looks like when it was built (except for the statue of liberty). Like, basically every ancient and pretty much all classical wonders would be ruins if they all looked like they do now.

Hi, it's me again! Great city! Fun fact: Constantinople was first recorded in the "Book of Han" around 2000 years ago, and some details of the city was recorded in the "Book of Tang" about 1500 years ago, the city was called as "康堡" ("Con" Castle) by the ancient Chinese. 😊

i copy pasted 康堡 to google translation but it didnt translate. Do you know the reason?
@gordonchao3074
@gordonchao3074 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's because: First, this name only appears on ancient Chinese books, modern Chinese call the city 君士坦丁堡(Constantinople) or 伊斯坦堡爾 (Istanbul), so the word "康堡" isn't well-known is one reason. Second, the name 康堡 is a phonetic name, just like Beijing is a romanisation of 北京, so Beijing can only mean 北京. With these two reasons combined, you will get things like this, if the name "Beijing" isn't well-known in English, then not many people will know that Beijing is 北京, so if you try to translate Beijing, you will get nothing, the reason 康堡 can't be translated is this, but instead of translating Beijing into 北京, it is translating 康堡 into Constantinople.

@@dimitriosvlissides5781 Yes you were there, and definitely have visited the area thousands of times to know that actually happened right? Surely not the way you were thought the history at school. Because no Greek historical education system is ever biased about Turks, and this issue certainly is not acknowledged countless times by even Greek Historians. Have you ever thought why Turkey have more Ancient Greek buildings of thousands of years perfectly sustained up to this date? Much more then Greece of today actually has? Have you ever thought how even Hagia Sophia was burnt 2 times under Byzantine rule and had to be rebuilt, but perfectly preserved under Ottoman/Turkish rule? Not gonna mention thousands of other Churches, Amphitheaters, ancient Cities and so on. You can hate Turks all you want, that doesn't change the fact that Ottomans actually had the most civil teachings and rules even of today. Did you know Christians had their own court, as well as other Religions and not judged by Ottomans (unless the crime was committed between different religions)? Did you know World's oldest schools for other religions were in Ottoman that are still open to this date in Turkey? (Saint Benoît - (1583) // Saint Joseph - (1841) are some of the most well known and sought after high schools even today) Ottomans might have been an expansionist Nation, but were infinitely more civil than 18-20th century expansionist Nations.. (Check what happened to India and Africa and US after so called "modern" Countries have arrived at those Countries) And funny part is, at that time Istanbul's conquest was considered a liberation from the Catholics by Greeks, because Byzantine Emperors following the collapse of the Latin Empire outlawed Orthodoxy entirely, a century more and there would be non left. Only thing that was destroyed after Ottoman's conquest in Istanbul was the Parthenon unfortunately, which was actually destroyed by Venetians who had fired the cannons. How ironic is that right? Byzantine wanting to destroy Orthodoxy entirely, but the Muslim Ottoman saves it and lets people practice religion as they wish, with their "own" courts and schools and even giving high places at the Government to those people. (Richest people were Armenians and Greeks by 17th Century in Ottoman, their crafts and trades were so well protected and respected that 26th generation of their apprentices still teach their practice today, from gem crafting [one of them is my neighbor, even responsible for crafting some of Queen's jewelry!] to other arts) Bet your education system never thought you these though :) Oh well, hate and be biased and stay under the effects of partial history if you want to mate, but it won't change the fact that at this point after thousands of years together we all have the same blood.

@@dimitriosvlissides5781 Lol from beginning to end only a few points are partially right, 90% of it is the most ignorant message I've ever read. Lets start shall we; - Hagia Sophia was turned into a mosque as Istanbul was conquered as a symbol, and it's mosaics were open for centuries till late 18th century, which has been fixed in the early 19th century again. Out of 600 years, it has never been covered for 500 years. But if you continue to burn Mosques in Europe we can't tell what will happen to them in the future. You see these stuff are always political and in response to the corresponding parties. - In Ottoman, like many Governments the disappearance of a Ferman (Firman - Decree) is a major crime, Lord Elgin "claimed" to have obtained a firman from the Government, but never had proof of it. It's veracity has always been disputed, at the end he simply stole everything he had, and the Parthenon marbles were not the first things he stole as well if you search his history. - Your ignorance knows no bounds, 90% of entire African cultural property resides in European museums to start with. Those histories that has been stolen from Turkey are a MAJOR sour point as well (and it should be for Greece too, because they stole from you too), coming to Turkey in the name of archeology from Europe (and even from US) and stealing so many important historical artifacts is a well known fact. Are you so naive to believe all those statues found in Viena - Berlin - Louvre etc are there legitly? LMAO you really know nothing. Not to mention those that have been stolen are not even 1/1000th of the Historical Artifacts in Turkey, and they also stole just as much (if not more) from Greece heritages as well. Just google "It's time for museums to return their stolen treasures - CNN" they wrote an article about it just a few months ago btw. - I am not going to educate you between the differences of Ancient Roman and Ancient Greek cultures on a youtube comment section for pages. Your ignorance is extremely heartbreaking. Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece both Countries are Mediterranean, they shared a lot but they had a lot of differences as well. What is Roman is told to be Roman, and what is Greek is told to be Greek. Hell even I have Greek blood why would anyone be ashamed of telling it? You are the only one with a back pain about having Turkic Dna in you, I gladly accept the facts lol. You really sound pathetic dude. - Yes around 28 Churches turned into Mosques in Turkey based on necessity and some for political reasons, considering that much Mosques turned into Churches just in Spain, not to mention how many have been turned or destroyed (or got burned!) in Portugal, Greece and other Countries, what is your point? There still stands the facts and maths; There are 180.854 Christians and over 20k Jews in Turkey as of 2018 with 435 Churches / Synagogues and Temples for them. That averages to 1 sanctuary for every 461 people. While in Europe and US it averages down to 1 mosque per 2500+ muslims. Honestly since I am not a believer I really dont mind these, but that doesn't change the fact that you are either a hypocrite, or are ignorant or brain washed by media and biased history. Try researching for at least 10 seconds before writing next time ;)

Hi Alejandro, great video however a relatively serious historical inaccuracy. The pope did not send ships full of supplies and reinforcements, exactly the opposite to be in fact. He deliberately delayed the ships and by the time they were anywhere near the city had already fallen. The only Catholics that helped was Guistiniani, a Genoese from Lesbos and a small detachment of Venetians. Not even the Genoese of Galata assisted.
