Constructing a knife maker’s vice! Need a tool? Make a tool. A maker can never have enough tools and specialty tools can be pricey. So, when I can, I make my own. This simple and neat vise holds blades securely and rotates in all directions to make sanding the blade and handle much easier.

Thanks! I figured just a touch of humor might keep these videos from being too boring. Haha

Very nicely done. One tip tho...your supposed to let the contact cement completely dry on both parts then press together. I see a lot of people not using it correctly. If you dont let it dry first then the bond wont be as strong. Great job and I love the beginning :)

Thank you! I typically do do exactly that, but sometimes for the videos I rush or forget things. I’m new to this whole making videos for KZbin thing. Hahaha. Just extra stuff to think about. But I do love helpful hints like that! Now this comment will be burned in my mind every time I pull the contact cement out. Haha.

I've been thinking about building one like this (not as nice as yours, my welding sucks) but have held off because I wonder if it actually holds the blade rigidly enough so there's no flex when you're hitting it with 220 and lots of elbow grease. What has your experience been?

That’s a great point. As you see it in the video, it works quite well. I did, however, find myself putting a few fingers under the blade for support. So, what I’ve done since then is router out a slot on the bottom vice “jaw” and screwed a piece of steel flat bar to the top and put that same rubber matting (an old, thin yoga mat) on the flat bar and the solved the support problem.
