Have you thought about jacking up the camper and putting a couple of tiers of 8x8 pieces under the axels to keep the tires off the ground? May help save the tires and avoid flat spots. Only need a inch or so off the ground. Just a thought. 🙂 Love you guys!!

Please "Kristien" don't even let Mighty Matt *try* to go up that ladder with a 225-250 pound beam on his shoulder! Yes he's strong, but if he gets hurt, both of your futures could be in jeopardy. Matt you're a hardworking fartsmeller, i mean smartfeller, & this is the time to stay safe for "Kristien's" Good, Matty Junior's Good, & your own Good. 🙏🦉 🏞️

Matt, you need some diagonal timber - you CANNOT rely on the feet for the vertical beams. Quick, before a small force causes everything to collapse.
@LordoftheCats
@LordoftheCats 2 ай бұрын
This is especially true when the wind speed increases and you start to experience significant lateral forces from the wind blowing against the roof. Some gussets between the top and verticle beams would be a good thing maybe.

8 X 8s on a roof?! I’m in the Northeast where there’s a ton of snow, and they don’t use 8 X 8s in the basement to hold up a two story house 😮 They sister three 2 X 6s for the main beam.

Nice job guys! It coming together. Matt, don't push it too hard--a back injury will haunt you for the rest of your life. Trust me, I speak from experience as a tradesman myself. A couple tips: Any decorative roofs look better if you run the beams past the end posts by 1'-2' and cut a profile on the end of the beam. You should also run the rafters past the beams by 2'. Precut your beams based on the measurements of the posts at the base since they are fixed in place and will not move. If you don't trust you tape measure, lay the beam at the base of the posts and mark/cut them. If you keep the measurements between the base of the posts the same as the top of the posts, then once you plumb one post all the others will be plumb.

I can't understand why you don't have h-shaped brackets on the top to hold the beams more securely. Of course, I was asking for brackets buried in the cement on the bottom. At least I am consistent. I love the time lapse video with the trees blowing in the background. What kind of treatment are you putting on the posts (ends and all) to protect them from rot, termites, etc?

Outstanding video, troops. Love the cat update. Here in Costa Rica, we bought one Persian gata, Missy Mariposa, 12 years ago, then a white kitten was lost in the park next to us in a rainstorm, so we inherited Snow White, looks just like your white kitty. Then one day the kids could hear a kitten crying in the rain and we acquired Nacho, the orange tom cat. Thomas just wandered in through an upstairs window one day, he's a black and white. Mouse is a grey female who was found with a sick momma cat and two siblings. She was so amall her eyes weren't opened yet. We bottle fed her, the only survivor from that group. Then Mango, a black orange and white kitten was dropped out of a car into a rainstorm and we kept her crying soaking wet self. So, we bought one kitten and have 6. All of ours are also fixed and get their shots. Anyway, thanks for lovin on those gatas, We sii your happy chickens but where are the goats? Seriously, we need a five minute goat update. I keep expecting to see them frollicking in the background but no sightings. Keep up the great work and be careful not to break the Matt! He'd be difficult to replace. See you next week.

OK, in my youth I worked construction. I will say a 120 pound compact load is hard to handle just walking. Climbing up a ladder with it on your sho is much more difficult. But make the load a long timber the amount of strength and skill it takes to climb a ladder in increased greatly. Kudos my frriend. P.S. it's also dangerous.

One trick in getting heavy things up like that is to temporarily screw pieces of wood on the sides of the vertical posts. You then get one end of the horizontal piece onto the temporary support then work the horizontal piece up on the other end. Make your temporary support so the horizontal heave beam cannot fall off. Make them like L shaped.

Love what you are doing to enjoy your outdoor experience. Having the pergola will be wonderful. You’re a hard working couple that is like the ever-ready battery. You two bunnies, just keep on going. 😊 Presuming you will be covering the RV, before you top it off with the pergola, you may want to consider doing your yearly roof maintenance. I would do a thorough wash, check and reseal the ac, vents, and other seams. Otherwise the deterioration in that climate will make for regrets. You may even want to consider a roof coating if the leaves and debris are a challenge. It’ll save you leaks and more work in the roof, walls, windows, seams and at the slide-out.

"Rectify the instabilities in our lives." Priceless! Even the most stable among us can use shoring up from time to time. Standing on the top step of a stepladder while lifting a 116 lb. beam onto an unbraced vertical might be a window into something that might warrant some attention. Apart from that, the security and stability of your relationship with one another and with the many other creatures that share our wonderous planetary home is impressive, and suggests to me a deep, heavy, and stabilizing keel. Thank you for all that you do. Btw, that white Klingon at 15' 40" is a hoot!
