This is insanely satisfying, while also being very triggering. Im no civil engineer, but my basic secondary education maths and physics was telling me that this is a collapse waiting to happen. Its not dug into the embankment enough, its not dug into the floor enough, the concrete is of an incorrect ratio, and theres no backstop. Its only a matter of time before it fails sadly... But it was very satisfying watching you building it. Almost ASMR-esque. ❤
@hardraysАй бұрын
these are built for seven year durability. abuttment are self seating into the impermeable clay regolith due to compression of the arch. the floor can be sealed with clay ad hoc. the mix ratio will allow for self healing of cracks in the mortar as the arch deforms while seating itself into the abutment.

I do note, that you appear to be building on top of a concrete base, so that is at least one positive. The other being your concrete screeding with a what appears to be a good 2 to 1 mix. However, no cut, foundation or strengthening in the banks, where the Abutment of the Dam is, to the point it is almost comical. A lot of hard work seems wasted, without strengthening of the Abutment area. Especially as you will get rain runoff, almost certainly eroding the banks. Before you cleared the foliage, that was what was holding it together. The water is also much higher behind the dam now, so it can force its way round the abutment during heavy rain. Finally, if people are tempted to walk across the top, there is not enough structural strength even with the rebar. My advice: Strengthen the Abutment area, by first piling sand bags against the dam, before digging out the sides of the bank and strengthening with concrete. Alternatively, if money and concrete are at a premium, plant something with good strong root stock.
