Construction of Jurong Region Line begins

Demolition and upgrades are slated for existing structures at three busy interchanges, as the Land Transport Authority begins the above ground construction of the Jurong Region Line. Construction is being done in three stages, with the first being completed in four years' time.

Started out as just a copy of the Docklands Light Railway, but as it turns out now, The Jurong Region Line will be well integrated with the western part of Singapore, and greatly improve the public transport standard in the western part of Singapore. In terms of station accessibility, the Jurong Region Line stations will be one of the more accessible rail stations in Singapore. (Short walking distance from the entrance to the platform, and short transfer distance with other train lines and between the JRL own branches.) The only real concern is the noise. Hopefully the noise barriers and the trackside friction management system can really help to minimize the noise pollution generated by the Jurong Region Line to the neighboring residential areas (anyway, the tracks are aligned away from the residential blocks as much as possible, so it should be just as noisy as the public buses).

its extremely costly, unless there is something worth the cost (and its extremely dangerous for the workers). Accidents have happened before such as the collapse of nicoll highway

how do u expect the contractors to dig below ground to build stations? in their report they have already stated that the limited space in the neighborhoods due to old structures are not of help as well.
